Does anyone know where the homelink signal is sent from? My dad bought a 97 maxima, and we've tried many times to program the homelink, including the train button on the garage door opener. I was thinking about just buying a new sun visor, but I can't find much info on where the signal is actually sent from, the visor or somewhere else. Any ideas? Thanks.... By the way, I drive an 02 6 speed with all the options, and ive also had a 95 se auto, and a 96 se 5 spd every option, and the 4th gen is by far my favorite car, I miss it so much and I'm glad we have another one in the fam....

 

It's sent from the visor. Is your garage door rolling code (a security feature)? If it is you need a 98+ visor.

Not true. I got my 97 programmed with a rolling code opener.

You have to do something with the actually garage door huh?

 

I remember parking under it, opening the moonroof, pressing the program button on the garage door opener, then doing the program sequence on the Homelink. It wasn't the same as the instructions in the owners manual.

 

Check to see if your visor has the little house symbol on it. If it doesn't then it won't handle rolling codes. My 1997 SE has the visor without the house symbol so I'm in the same boat.

 

The Homelink units were upgraded sometime during '97. Early 97s don't have the rolling code capability.

 

Mine does have the house icon on it - for once I got lucky.

Mine came with the non rolling code home link, so i just bought a new visor from a 1999 i30 that had the rolling code homelink.

 

I have a 98 and it took me about 40 minutes to finally get it programmed. I was doing the instructions right, I just did not have the garage opener positioned right. I finally had to have it almost pressed against the visor, and had to tilt it a certain way. I did it over a year ago so I don't remember exactly how I had to have it positioned. If the rolling code is not an issue then it should work, it just takes a little more time on some garage door openers.
