b-pipe etc

b-pipe etc
I'm just wondering since I was reading the mod faq and couldn't find what I needed since the link was down, if I got a Y-pipe, is it necessary to get a B-pipe and converter and muffler to get more HP gain?

IMO the only thing you would be doing is increasing the diameter to 2.5 all the way back, which would help flow under WOT but not much noticible gain (besides noise perhaps).
IIRC Motorvate dynoed after his b-pipe and saw somewhere around 2-3 hp but I do not recall if those were peak numbers or if they flattened the curve at all (by 2-3hp LOL).

Pretty much none. The only reason you should get an aftermarket hi-flow cat is if your stock one is going out and you need a cheap alternative to OEM that will still pass smog.

mufflers only change the SOUND of your maxima. there is no performance gain.
with a catalatic converter you will only see a 1 or 2 hp (possibly margin of error) with a high flow cat.
y-pipe and b-pipe are the only upgrades that will improve hp, around 12 to 20hp (depending who you talk too :P) for a y-pipe, and 2 to 8 hp (ya again i seen so many figures on the b-pipes too).
if you want rice in a maxima, thats sad. try something like Greddy SP2 for a deep grown that sounds nice! stillen has grown on me since i been using it, but its loud and in charge, everyone hears me, used to be really annoying, but my point is, that rice doesnt belong in the v6 territory.

I'm looking to get a B-pipe, cause I'm getting a bit of a leak out of my existing one. Does anyone know a good website for a relatively cheap one? I dont want a stock one because of the huge crimp in the pipe after the resonator.. Also.. do they sell b-pipes with out resonators? do you think this would increase HP, or just be a lot louder?? (i'm not into that whole ricer sound) Thanks in advance

I can afford a cattman, but I don't like the way it looks, looks ricey with that rough finish, whats the best site to find a good price on Tokico, I've searched Frontpage, just wondering if anyone has other websites?

If it's in the exhaust manifold, you'll only be reading one bank. The test pipe area is the most logical palce for it to go. Unless you bung your y-pipe before the test pipe, but that would yeild maybe 3-5"

I picked up the cattman muffler and not the b-pipe cause I was afraid it would be too loud. After installing it and hearing the way it sounded with just the muffler made me want to pick up the b-pipe to make it louder cause I love the sound. Even if you don't like the looks of it who cares? The sound definately makes up for it. Also the fit was PERFECT. I didn't have to do anything to it to get it to sit right.

i hate to jack a thread.. but i need to quiet down my exhaust.. i actually hate how loud my car is... i think i made a bad choice on a muffler.. i have the budget y and b pipe with the magnaflow res, and a Flowmaster 40 series as the muffler.. and it is louder than when i had the stock with an exhaust leak... would i just need to get a better muffler like a bigger series like a 60 or 70 series, would a 5th gen quiet it down alot? or would i need to replace the resinator also? i have read thread after thread about this and am reading so meny contradicting comments its making my already bad headache worse
I really need help.. and am willing to sell the 40 series and trade it for a 5th gen muffler if i need to..
Please help i am going deaf..

Geophrum - the 40 series flowmaster muffler was designed for a muscle car.. I'd say that is your major concern. You can buy a stock replacement muffler from Advanced Autoparts for like $140 which may sound like a lot, but I think it will quiet down your system. But I have a Question for ya.. when you added the LSS (budget) B-pipe, did you notice any HP gains? or a lot of noise gains?

well on this car i added the budget y and the b with res together so yeah i felt alot of hp gain.. the car has alot more power than befor.. but i can also guess that it could of come from the y-pipe..
i replaced the b-pipe not really for performance but becuase that is were my exhaust leak was coming from... so getting a good deal on the budget y-pipe and a good deal on the b-pipe sounded like the way to go.
i told the guy that put my muffler on that i wanted a quiet car and he didnt tell me anything about how loud this 40 series was.

i had a Y and budget B(resonated) with stock muffler. It almost sounded like stock with a slight growl. I think this is what your looking for Geo. Now with a cattman rear its quite a bit louder.
