Wow ... you should have your flame suit on. What you do is you pretend that your LSD tranny and LSD driver's side axel are actually non-LSD tranny/axel and reinstall it.

in other words, get a LSD tranny, LSD drivers side axle and keep your stock non-LSD passenger axle and I think you are good IIRC, but someone chime in here it seems like I am missing something-maybe about an axle seal or something???

This appears to be the drill. I am working on this right now. The left axle needs to be from a 95-99 Infiniti I30 Touring, which is the LSD version. A total remanufactured left axle assembly is $77.00 or a new one for $118.00 based on online searches. I have not run into anything about other seals...yet. Anyone can jump in here and help. I am going to make this swap since my original trans just slipped away at 218K...if you know what I mean. I am looking for an Infiniti LSD trans now. I will just drive my beater truck until I find one. I have found 3 JDM LSD trans locally through an importer, but I have not determined if there are any hidden surprises going that route. I have emails into them right now for the ECU, TCU, mechanical, electrical, wire connector, differences to do this. As someone else indicated, I am being a pioneer here....I am just gellin like Magellan!

Yes, both 5-speed and Auto LSD LH axles are different from non-LSD LH axles.

Non touring could have lsd as well.

Your correct, but it would be an option, in which case you have to specify that and it leads you to the Touring model anyway. If you order the I30 Touring axle from the start, it is only an LSD version.

Just so you remember, LSD sucks in the snow. Had a '91 Sentra SE-R w/ LSD and couldn't keep it on the road. Just spins both front wheels all the time unless you have great snow tires. Maxima is heavier, so that should help, although the tires are slightly larger too so it might even out. Food for thought.

What are you trying to do ? You only need the tranny and the axle.

Don't know about the automatics, but some (possibly all??) 5-speed VE30DE 3rd gen's also came with the RS5F50V.

That is all I need if I find a USDM I30 LSD trans. When I asked about JDM LSD trans I was told there may some electronic incompatibility, so I am trying to find out if they are the same as the domestic I30.

There is a local JDM importer near me with several LSD trans. Unfortunately, they have been a bit short on info. They were not even aware that the left axle was different so I am trying to get more accurate information from this group. There is a considerable amount of time and money involved in changing this. I want to be sure I have compatible parts. Wouldn't you?

Spinning one wheel would be better?

I am a bit surprised to hear that. I though it would be better. When I did drive my Max in the snow it was only fair, but not good. More than once I was in a situation where one wheel was spinning and the other doing nothing. I thought an LSD would have helped that situation. I don't drive my Max in the snow anymore for two reasons. One it is now lowered which only made it worse and two I bought a 4WD truck for bad weather as well as other truck duties. Before the truck, I hauled a lot of lumber and pipe etc through the trunk, through the hole in the back seat and down the center of the interior. Fortunately that is over.

i have a 95 fed maxima. My auto tran got screwed when the axle popped out. destroyed 1/3 or more of the tooth. Had to use a dremmel to carve the tooth so that I can put an axle in. Took 6 hours pounding it in. If all the tooth wears out...I'm gonna do this. Hope you document it!

As soon as I can locate a trans I am doing this. I will start disassembly this weekend. Glad to hear that someone else is interested. I will document what I find/do.

I'm letting you know that the 96-99 (there is no 95 btw) touring is not the lsd version. It maybe one lsd version, but other trims like some non touring and AE maxima had that tranny.

I am only going by what the ordering info contains. Every site that I have checked for axles indicates that the I30 Touring model came standard with LSD. All others were options.
