serpentine belt replacements?

My car is squeeking on startup and I think it's the belts. I just replaced the starter and it starts great now but still squeeks. How can I check if it's both belts or just one and how hard are each to replace and how much do they cost?

the smaller one i haven't done but i did the bigger belt and it was pretty easy. the hardest part i had was that even with the tensioner loosened all the way you still have to work the belt just right to get it on. took me about an hour i would say.

the belt itself should be pretty cheap like ~$15 but if your belt is not cracked or damaged then all you have to do is tighten the tensioner.

1. Is there a link, where I can find the steps to replace the belts.

2. I am having charging problem which some parts shops (with their tester) found, while some did not. One of the dealers said everything OK, while the other one said: it is bad alternator.

Now, I am thinking if the belt connected to alternator is bad, then it could show up as charging problem. And the alternator itself could not be bad. Alterntor replacement is costly (over $450) which may not be needed if belt fixing solves the problem.

So, please tell me how can I check/replace belts.

Thanks,

Hamim.

1) the fsm. its not hard download the fsm for your year from phatg20.net.

2) ask for a printout of the charging results....if it is under 13.6 under load i would replace the alternator.... also... a belt will not solve a undercharging alternator unless the belt is stupid loose/ripped. you can check the belts by a: visually for rips/tears/cracks and 2: for deflection (slack in belt), you should be able to move the belt, i believe OEM specs is something like .4 inches up and down.

Both belts are pretty easy to change. The serpentine took almost 45min though, because it can be a real pain to work it on even with the tensioner as loose as it can be. The alternator one took about 5 minutes.

Depending on how long you have owned the car, if you are doing one you may as well just do both.

What do you mean alternator vs serpentine? Alt and AC are on one belt, PS is another one.

Sorry for asking this rather simple question (in the diagram posted by NmexMax):

What is the difference between the 2 wrench symbols (to show the torque range) - one with black background and another with white background. These symbols appeared 4 times in the main diagram. And twice at the lower left corner.

To me the only difference is first one (black background) is in ft-lb and the other one is in-lb ==> is this right?

Thanks.

If you have any mileage on your car whatsoever, I would go down to Nissan and get new tensioner bolts. My PS tensioner bolt was bent and the block it threads into was corroded and the Alt/AC tensioner was corroded. Just with age I suppose. Replaced both and made the install much easier.

no it wont loosen because you didnt loosen the mounting bolt for the ps pump you have to loosen that so it can move on the bracket you have to feel around for it just loosen a couple of turns and it will move

This isn't even your thread to bump.

Call your local Nissan dealer and ask them for the P/N, and buy the part. Your bumping antics are getting old
