misfire in cyl3, checked coils, resistance is too high..wat are my options?

Had a misfire in cylinder 3 and I have had a stuttering problem while idle for a very long time now. Finally pulled out the multimeter and measured the resistance on the front 3 coils and they all read around 2.2 mega-ohms. According the thread in the stickies, it should be between 1.3-1.7 mega ohms.

Is it reasonable that ALL 3 of the front coils read around the same resistance? Meaning ALL 3 of them are bad? I didn't even bother with the other 3 because I bet those are bad too.

Now I saw a GB for a set of Hanshin coils, which are the ones in the 99's as well. Should I not even bother with these because they may cause an issue later down the road? or should I try and get some of the Mitsu's from like a max in the junkyard?

Does anyone know if the Hanshins typically have a high resistance even when they are brand new?

did you test them while cold?... i did mine while cold some time back and thats the readings i got, but it was impossibly that all my coils are bad and my car still run so i did the test after driving all day and they all tested fine.....

drive a while.... you dont have to heat it up, just make sure they are warmed up well and test them again.... #3 is the second one in the back row

the test in the FSM simply states the resistance (across the transistor) should not be 0. it does not specify an acceptable range for either hanshin or mitsu. however, this test is not conclusive. the coil could still be bad even if it passes the test.

ya I did test them while they were cold. I'll test them again sometime this weekend after warming them a bit.

Since it's a 99, replace all six pack and you would be happy to kill the problems one time.

I have poor idle on my 99 too, but I've already replaced the coils and the injectors, plugs, cleaned the IAC, TB, and the MAF sensor.

Coils don't cause poor idle only - bad coils cause poor idle AND choppy acceleration. You may be barking up the wrong tree.

A LOT of 99 owners are having IDLE problems. I'm going to post a poll to see how many of us are experiencing this issue which we CANNOT fix.
