Turn signal question

Turn signal question
Hey all,
I noticed tonight that on what seemed to be a GLE Maxima, when you turn on the turning signals, the parking lights (the ones near the headlights) become brighter, and when the turn signal is turned off, it returns to the natural light state.
My 99 GXE does not do that... do I have a bad bulb, or is it something that is available only on upper trim levels?

i dont think anythings wrong with your car. I have a 99 GLE auto and a 98 SE manual. the only lighting difference is that when i tap the gas in the 98 ALL the lights get brighter, including my interior lights. nothing to worry about though

Anyone else can shed some light, or am I smoking?
I saw the same thing happening on Nissan Quest vans - the parking light, just the one that is corresponding to the turning signalthat turned on, would get really bright... as if a 2nd wattage setting is turned on.

When the turn signal is turned on, the extra lamp that gets brighter is called a "cornering lamp" feature. It's sole purpose is to illuminate the area brighter when making a turn. Most luxury cars have this feature. Now, Nissan had this feature in the '95-'96 Max's. They then eliminated this feature until the 2004 Max. That is why if you see the cornering lamp getting brighter when the turn signal is applied, the car is most likely a '95-'96 model Max. The '97-'99 Max's do not have this feature.

Hrm, good idea - thanks

i get the brighter parking light on my 95 turn signal. But if the liht is getting brighter when you give gas, it may be because you need a new alternator soon or just that it's not keeping steady voltage at idle on your car.
