Autotranny experts inside please

My 2-3 shift is very slow and the engine revs inbetween the shifts. What could be the problem? The valve body or the selonloids?

thats tough...because the valve body controls the pretty much the speed of the shift but the solenoids control when and what gear...i would look at VB first...but u can get a solenoid pack for like 150 I dunno how much they charge for VB

did you check the fluid level? I know that sounds basic, but hey. And if its only that gear i dont know that i would say filter. Is it constant or come and go?

disconnect the drop resistor and see if it still shifts slow, if it does its probably your clutches.

Pretty consistant, I think the tranny is slipping alot lately, but it just started the revving inbetween shifts.

Revving in between shifts = slippage. Time for a new transmission.

Similar problem...

I don't know what that is but I think I have similar proplem in my auto! When I cruise in 2000 RPM and when the gear is ready to shift it revs to 2500 PRM and shifts! Hmmmmm I think I started noticing that after the trany oil change! Have no idea what that could be!

I'm hoping it's tranny fluid or something. I dont want to spend a **** load for a new tranny. Def. try to get a VLSD tho if I need a new tranny. What's the price for a rebuild?

sometimes you can get the bands adjusted for a little more life. Usually enough to save the $$ for the new/rebuild tranny

Fck this really sucks. Good think alot of people do manual swaps. I can pick up one(an auto) for cheap.

Well a friend here at school, her father owns a auto shop. I'm wondering if he could give me a deal on rebuilding the tranny. Would replacing/fixing the bands fix the problem or is just something that would give a little more time before a rebuild?

Depends on what is wrong with it. Typically when you rebuild a transmission you replace more than just bands, because you are already there so why skip essentials? If the bands are worn and have some adjustment left in them you can sometimes adjust them and limp around for another month or two while you save $$.

yeah ive been driving hard in my auto and i can tell its not shifting how it used to. I would like to see a basic write up of an auto tranny swap (to another auto) cause i have no problem doing the labor myself but i've heard its really not that hard.

I replaced mine with a junkyard one 60,000 miles on it. $400. Installation was $450 and I upgraded the VB to a stage 2 at the same time.

That's a lot of $$. How hard is the installation if I find a cheap tranny?

did you unplug the drop resistor, you'll be surpised that the slipping will stop completely until you decide to fix it.

Thats exactly why I bought a used one and just replaced it. $2600 and it most likely wont be the same. $850 for the replacement installed and it works like a champ.

Sounds good dubbya. I got offered an 01 AE tranny with VLSD for $550. I might take that depending on how much the labor would be....

it stops the lag in between eliminatng the slipping of the clutches. its the silver box on the driver side shock tower. its almost like the vb mod its a quick solid shift. this will at least keep the car from lagging until you decide to fix it properly.

By raising transmission line pressure to max. Do it if you like, but if you end up rebuilding the auto you will more than likely have more hard parts to replace and thus spend more money.

i did it to mine for over two years and had no ill effects, and since his tranny is done anyway it will by him more time. we do this as a mod here in case you dont know jime has done it for yrs also. its called the drop resistor mod.

yes it does, a tranny cooler will help. but as a bandaid for a badly slipping tranny this will keep it up and running till it's replaced. its more likely bad clutches anyhow so the tranny's on its way out either way. when my level ten tranny went bad i put my stock tranny back in and unplugged the drop resistor and wound up keeping it in for the whole winter and it rode fine till i got my level ten fixed.

I'm familiar with it, and as we all know, Jime knows what he's talking about.
