Fuel Filter Replacement Question

Good morning

So... I decided to change my fuel filter yesterday along with the spark plugs in an attempt to improve my gas mileage. Spark plugs were ok, but I ran into a problem with the fuel filter and would like suggestions.

After removing the fuel pump fuse, depressurizing the fuel system, removing the two hose clamps, getting the filter out of the bracket I was totally unable to pull the hoses out of the filter. I tried cranking again several times to make sure there was no pressure in the fuel lines, still nothing.

Any suggestions (beside a blow torch )??

Thanks

get a flat head screwdriver inbetween the line and the fuel filter and move it so it just inches the line off there. It will probably require force too. Don't be afraid to pull hard.

Don't just pull, twist. I ran into the same problem when replacing my crappy old filter with a z32 filter. Forceful twisting action will remove the hose as though it has threads, slowly but surely. Good luck!

Did you really just say that you were going to use a blow torch? On your fuel filter?! I hope you were kidding. Use a flat head and pry the hoses off. If not the cut the hoses with a blade and install the new filter. Simple.

Also remove your gas cap, which will help take pressure off the lines.

hoses are stuck on there pretty tight in general, so it's not always due to residual pressure in the lines. Like it was stated before, either twist it off slowly or use the inching method by applying force to opposite sides of the hose opening in an alternate fashion. I used a little WD40 which helped to loosed things up a bit (I know this isn't it's intended use, but it worked) since it wicks into the space between the nipple and the hose. best bet is to take the top hose off first using the inching method and then twisting the FF off the bottom hose. I don't recommend cutting the hoses, they're already short as it is. Patience!

For many things on the car it just needs some old fashioned grunting, heaving and sweating to get it done.

Do you guys by any chance know that part # to the z32 fuel filter? If not then the filter from a 95-96 300zx Non-turbo would work?

Ed:1, fuel filter: 0

Thanks for your help you guys, patience and twisting was the key to my problem!

95GLEMAXX: I think the z fuel filter is bigger so it will last longer...

larger filtering capacity, with possibly greater flow characteristics. I'm sure on the first part, guessing on the second.

16400-N7605JP is the one I bought, it is listed for a 300ZX.

Z filter really just last longer. No one has proven any other gains from using it.

Next time try some penetrating oil like PB Blaster. Shoot some on there, wait a minute, then try twisting the hose. It will work loose nice and easy every time.

I changed my fuel filter today. Yes the twisting plier method definately works. You really have to try to start the car and take off the gas cap to relieve as much pressure as you can. I knew after i loosen the clamps there is no freaking way those hoses will come off by pulling on them. I immediately knew this is gonna be a b***h to get off. Patience really is key.

i did mine today as well. But I tried to get the hoses off but couldnt . So basically cut of the old fuel hose and bought some at advanced auto parts. Neither pulling nor twisting was working on removing the lines.

Thanks. I was told today by my friend who has a z32 fuel filter in his car that he bought the 95 300zx twin turbo one and it works perfectly.

Hey all, seems like quite a few members decided to change their fuel filter and since I received few PMs with questions on how to do it, I thought I'd post the link to the DIY I used:

Have fun!
