Interesting way to flush out engine

Just spoke to someone who used to work in the petroleum industry and he explained how he flushes out his engines about every 100,000 km.

First he drains the oil pan and keeps the old oil fitler on.

Then he proceeds to add around 3 litres of diesal fuel into the engine along with one liter of cheap new oil. He says the very low thinness of diesal helps flush out.

He runs the engine for 2 to 3 minutes maximum, drains the oil and diesal and the old filter, then puts 2 more litres of the new cheap oil along with old old filter back on.

Run the engine for 2-3 minutes to flush out any diesal residue, then proceed with new oil and filter adding one litre of Slick50 to provide a new coating.

Before trying this can any one endorse this approach?

Negative. Just change your oil every 2500-3000 miles and you wont have any problem at all

And use a good detergent oil such as Castrol GTX.
At 125,000 miles, when I look into my valve cover all I see is shiney clean metal surfaces coated with oil.

Do 2 applications of AutoRX if the engine has more than 100K miles on it, otherwise one application. See www.auto-rx.com.

I have used the product and it worked for me. I switched to synthetic oil in February and wanted to rejuvenate my seals, clean the engine internals and ring packs, which are the primary benefits of AutoRX.

Myself as well. I had my VC off at 130K and everything looked new.

I'm sure it works at removing some hard to remove stuff. Diesel fuel is a bit of a solvent and might help loosen up some of the nastier stuff thats in there, but I would not expect there to be much nasty buildup if you use good oil and change regularly. I also don't know how safe it is to run the engine for a few minutes with diesel fuel in it. It was designed to run with a specific weight oil, and diesel is not the right weight...If you are really concerned with cleaning it out, I suggest AutoRX

I change my oil on schedule and use either semi or full synthethic. My previous car, ahem a 1987 Cutlas Ciera lasted 13 years to 350,000km the last several years on synthetic and the engine was still smooth.

At most I will use the Auto-RX, never heard of it and wonder if available in Toronto.

AutoRx is only available through the above mentioned website. You can not buy it in a store.

Is this stuff the same as any of the in-store brands? I would love to try it but was hoping to be able to just buy it at a store....

I too will try the auto rx stuff.

But wow some of you guys are really harsh on the idea of deisel in the crankcase. Ever tried any "engine flush" from a parts store? notice that it smells like dilluted deisel? That's exactly what that stuff is! This is why you only run it for 2-3 minutes. Its simply a cheaper/ simpler (but not as effective with just one session) than AutoRX.

AutoRX> deisel flush, but dont slap the idea away because it does work, just not as effective.

Well thats pretty much what I was thinking also, but as I am not a huge fan of introducing ANY type of solvent into the engine as part of the re-lube process I was hoping somebody had tried another "in-store" product and had success with it.

Nope, nothing even remotely similar, they've got the market cornered, trust me get this if you wanna clean your engine, its worth the extra work to get it online

Well alright, even if that is the case do you really feel that introducing a solvent is a good idea. I'm not saying it is'nt as I dont know for sure or anything,I'm just curious. My neighbor has worked for Castrol for 17+ years so I asked him about this...he wasnt familiar with Auto Rx or even what kinda solvent it was but he said he has never heard of anybody really being able to prove that introducing a solvent into an engine was beneficial and as I said I have never been a fan of this idea but its hard to deny that many people in here and a few other sites agree that this works. I dont have a problem with trying something but I do worry about the possible negative effects...has anybody seen anything that proves this works other than trying it and then gauging the results for yourself(rule out the placebo effect)

Its not a solvent, it uses esters to slowly clean the engine, look at the before and after pics on their site...

Try locating an amsoil dealer the used to make a great engine flush primarily for changing from conventional to syn. oil

I can't say anything about using diesel, but Slick50 is a known ripoff in the automotive industry. I was chatting just last week with an engine design engineer (former Detroit guy) and he explained that the Slick50 demonstration involved had roller bearings built into the Slick50 wear tester and no rollers (sliding contact) on the comparison tester. LOL.

Based on that I'd say this person doesn't have the greatest credibility.

How do you use auto rx?

Do you simply add it during your oil change?

thanks,

yes its an ok thing to do just dont let it run to long i would say 2min 30 sec max, for one it is cheaper than auto rx and to be honest auto rx also has diesel fuel in it, That is what makes it clean the existing parts, I would know my dad has bean a mechanic for 26 years and he has done it to every car he's owned even the 658whp s10 and I have not seen a problem yet

It is a solvent. difference is, its not a strong one (not as strong as those 5 minute flushes anyhow). Independant info? I have seen tons of before/after pics from regular people who arent on that site.
