Airbag Module Replacement

Hi Guys,

My airbag light has been blinking for the past 1.5 years. I've used the reset trick to get it to turn off, but recently that stopped working. Dealer says it needs a new module for $1100. NOT! Some on line dealers are around $750 and there are a few on eBay. Has anyone changed the module? Can you tell me where it is or how to change it? Any help would be appreciated. I really can't swing $1100 or even $750 anytime soon.... Thanks!

Well, after months of on & off again searching on eBay, I found one for $25 + $10 shipping. I had purchased one that was advertised as a '95 / '96 Max Airbag Module, but found that it was the wrong part. I'm not sure of the compatibility between the two years, so check w/ the seller to get the correct part number.

Disconnected the batter over night just to be cautious. Used the Torx bits to get the old one out & this one fit right in. Started it up & the airbag light went off just as it was supposed to!

Thanks for the help.

Sure! Part number that was in my '96 Max SE was 28556 53U00. It's printed on the side of the unit. Lift up your arm rest, shine a flashlight in on the pass side & you should see the ink stamp.

I just searched eBay for

Maxima Air -intake

every few days & finally found one. There's a lot of salvage shops on eBay, so it just depends on what they happen to have at the time. This place was LKQonline. They've got a big eBay shop & were very easy to deal with.

Good Luck!!

i hope this one works.

Hopefully it will be fine. The big differences I saw with the 95/96 module I bought vs the one that fit my 96 was the size and the molex connector. It wouldn't have worked even if I wanted to use that part! You should know pretty quickly if it will fit or not. The big question is whether or not it will work.

You could also give your dealer a call. I tried this, but mine wasn't very helpful-- just said they couldn't confirm if it would work or not due to liability issues.

Sorry I was so slow in responding. I've been traveling for work & they've blocked all msg boards & forums from our laptops.

for all who are looking to change out their modules. check the exact part you have first. apparently nissan has two different kinds of modules that go into the 95-96 models. i looked up the part number from the module i purchased and it says its for a 95-96 maxima but the one i have in the vehicle now is different. the plugs are completely different.
