Start up squeak

Since the colder weather has come i've been getting a strange noise from my driver side part of my engine bay. It sounds like a belt squeaking, but i know the belts are on the other side. Could it be the starter or anything, its rather annoying and it only lasts during start up?

I have this too. I changed my belts because they were pretty shot. Does it squeak when it is "overnight" cold? My squeak has changed pitch but it has not gone away. I think it is the A/C - Alt belt.

I did notice that my idler is very worn.

Just try tightening you drive belt tensioner. If the squeak goes away then here is you problem. If it doesn't turn it back the way it was. Something else is squeaking.

I would just regrease it. Saves you $100+. Sure, it took longer, but for an hours work, saving $100 is worth it IMO. And besides, working on your car is fun, right? :P

You're right, my starter does the same thing when it is cold out. I realized what you were talking about when it did it friday night. It has been doing it since I got the car in late 2002. It sound like a bad/un-lubed bearing.

I am going to do nothing about it. starter works, who cares.
