Could this hurt my car?

I was driving I would say about 20 miles, talking to my brother. I don't know how this happened but somehow he made a mistake and pushed the car in N, and I didn't know, but I was pressing on the accelerator and noticed it was in N... ... I notice something is different but im not sure if it hasn't been like that.

Uh, what's the problem? Revving the engine in neutral while moving won't have any harsh effect on the engine, as long as you come to a complete stop before putting it back into drive.

I need to put it in the shop because when im driving sometimes I hear this little rattle noise, I think its coming from this big thang thats in front on the fan.

Why would you need to come to a complete stop in order to put it in Drive?

I do it all the time whenever i just want to let the car cruise. (auto).

It's just easier on the transmission if you aren't moving. It won't permanently damage it or anything. And FYI you aren't saving gas by cruising in neutral...

just don't put it back in drive while it's reving. don't worry about it...
and the big "thang" in front of the fans is your radiator. If it's ratling it's prolly because the little rubber grommets that let it move around have worn out and need replacing. Why would you take it to a shop for that. It's two bolts and the piece can't be more than 10-20 bucks (can't say cause I haven't bought one, but I do need to).

ECU cuts fuel until 1500RPM or I think 15MPH when decelerating in gear.

you dont need to come to a complete stop you just gotta let the RPMs drop back down. and no, not bad unless you redlined it.

Hmmm....next time, for actual damage, pop it in Reverse or Parking ^^

It'll stall your engine.

You don't typically get rattles from the radiator. Is that where you think it's coming from?

It's not going to hurt or anything unless you put in reverse or park while moving. And it is not necessary to come to a completely stop to change from N to D. I do it all the time- in heavy traffic or in climbing steep hills I put in the second or first then change into D whenever I need and I think it never hurted or anything.
