Where to buy a cheap Timing Chain Kit

Cause my maxima's timing chain make more and more noise, finally i make up my mind to change it. So here is the thing, i quoted the price in several local store, they told me they don't have the kit to sell, they just have the whole part, that will cost about 1,000$. Does anyone know where can i buy cheap kit, 1,000$ is too much for me. I am in canada, so pls give me some place which they can mail the kit to me. Thanks a lot

IIRC the VQ has a timing BELT.. I know my VQ makes no noise where my KA (240sx) you can definately tell it has a chain. Not too sure though as I have never had one apart.

umm the vq in my maxima definately has a timing chain..just like the one I had before and the other 2 in my driveway. I have 2 spare motors. I have whatever timing component you need. If it is making noise, it is most likely your tensioner/guide (whatever its called) inside the case. it is like a $50 part at nissan new. There are many threads on this, just do a search on google for it.

i think you need the chain guides replaced. do a search on the forums and you'll find it. someone's done it here before.

Here you go.
if your engine has high miles, i would recommend just getting a low mileage engine

Hey, that's good news to me! I would much rather have a chain than a belt.. and now that I have had time to think about it, I knew that.. Or I would've replaced mine by now. I was thinking of the VG30DE in my buddy's 300zx... My bad.

right... $1000 for a kit you got quoted?

That is extremely on the high side, because i just did a VR6 timing chain, tensioner, sprokets and guides. All OEM VW parts came out to be $1200 thats with sprokets on the cams, intermidited and crank. upper/lower chains and all the tensioners as well.

That ebay one linked about is a fair price but not sure on how the parts are. THere shouldn't really be kits out there as not too many require repairs. If a tensioner or guide has fail people normally replace that one. Some people replace everything to be on the safe side since your already in there. But normally most shops replace whats broken.

NO THE VQ HAS A CHAIN.....courtesyparts kit is about 550 bux.....ill double check but its a lot of work....but the noise is form the tensioner which is not an easy job but not overly hard either and all u need is the tensioner not the whole kit

you can replace the tensioner in a few hours....there is a great write up on the water pump replacement and it basically tells u how to change the tensioner since it has to be taken out anyway...but u obviously dont have to replace the pump...although its not a bad idea

So 99 of 100 on here already changed their engines? I wasn't aware of that.
