Cost to repair rear main seal leak????

I think I have a rear main seal leak. I have had it for some time now. It is not large amounts of oil yet, but it is starting to stain up my driveway quite a bit.

Has anyone ever had their rear main seal repaired? If so, how much (more or less) can I expect to pay to get this repaired?

Well $40 if you can do the work yourself. Such as dropping the trans and what not. Or over $600 if you cant.

I plan to do it myself, I wouldn't wanna pay all the labor for it. Dropping the tranny and what not. Lookin in the Haynes, the work is not that much just for the seal, it is everything else.

I had it replaced with my clutch, so it technically came out to be free because we were there anyway. You looking at around 400+

I too have an automatic, but personally I would just keep an eye on the oil level and if you're losing oil more rapidly than you'd like, fix the seal properly... I would never put anything in the crankcase besides oil.

I've had a minor rear main seal leak on my Maxima for 3 years now, in fact it's so minor that I don't even see a difference in oil level worth noting over the course of my oil change intervals.
