Spark plugs or coil packs????
About a month or so ago, i was driving in from work and i began slowly acclerating up a small hill.. I noticed my car felt sluggish around 2k rpm's like it was holding back or something.. next day i was getting on the highway and i felt a solid miss, engine was missing something terrible but would pick up around 5k and start to pull hard.... It ran perfect at idle and as long as u did not get on it... I figure spark plugs.. Put in a set of NGK iridium's and the miss was gone at speed, but it then began missing at idle while in Drive. Done that for about 2 or 3 weeks then stopped... It runs great now, has no codes accept the knock sensor, which it's had for years.... Anyway anyone had a similar experience??? At first I thought a coil pack was going out but would that not throw a cel code? The ngk's were also pregapped so i can't figure why it missed so bad at idle then suddently stopped all together? Thanks

Similar problem
I had a similar issue on my 95 that I finally resolved. Having done everything that was recommended including Throttle Body cleaning IAC valve, plugs, filters, etc., while the problem seemed to improve after each of the above, it eventually got worse. It would be fine at idle and while not up to operating temperature, but get it warm or sitting at a stop light in gear, it would sputter, spit, backfire, and generally misbehave. I labeled it a misfire.
All along I suspected a coil pack but the other things needed to be done anyway. I too only got the Knock Sensor code and it too has been there for years. From the posts here, I diagnosed the problem by pulling the wires on coils to determine which 1 it was and narrowed it down to the one in the middle in the back. Replaced it and it hasn't misfired since (well it did a little one, so that may be an indication of another one failing). I never got a misfire code until I unplugged one of them and the computer successfully logged this misfire. So evidently unless the coil goes hard bad, if it somewhat works, at least on my 95, it doesn't throw a code. Mine would run so bad, I couldn't believe it wouldn't throw a code.
