Auto-RX anyone?

Auto-RX anyone?
Has anyone here used Auto-RX in their 4th gen to clean out their engine from old oil build up on the seals and sludge that may have accumulated over time?
Have you felt any difference engine performance after? Can this engine treatment do more harm than good?
Thanks

I used ARX before switching to synthetic at 70k miles. honestly, I can't tell you if it did any good or not. I've noticed some seal seepage at both main seals since I started running syn oil -- ARX did not prevent that. as for general cleaning -- my VQ was clean to begin with, so I saw no benefit there. my advice -- look down your oil filler hole - if you see any sludge/build up then use ARX. if not, then check your compression - is it ok? if yes, then forget ARX. if it's low, then use it (one of the purported benefits of ARX is to clean sticky ring packs - which no other mild engine cleanser can do).

Not trying to hijack your thread here, but I have one bottle for sale.
I used Auto Rx when I was at 150-160k. I don't know if it does anything good, but my engine was slightly dirty at that time (when you look down the filler hole. I did the 100k plus treatment (so I used 2 bottle) and now I am on maintenance dose. I suppose the benefit of Auto Rx could be realized when you actually opened your cam cover.
Go to the bobistheoilguy site and read it out for yourself. I know there are several engines out there that would build sludge easily due to poor design, so these definitely need Auto Rx (or a new engine if it's too late). I don't think our VQ is sensitive to these, but I decided to run it because I plan to keep the car for a long time (it's at 172k now).

Auto-RX uses a compound of esters to break down sludge and oil foaming, while reconditioning seals. So the answer is, it does work, but you have to follow the given instructions very closely. Good idea prior to swapping to full synthetic on an old engine IMHO.

My engine has been burning oil like mad lately (oil pressure light turned on at 3k miles since last oil change), so I bought some AutoRX. I'm in the first "rinsing" period right now with another 1000 miles to go til my 2nd application. I figured for the money it's worth a try. My car just whizzed past 160k miles.

I have used AutoRX. I had some varnish in the crankcase and wanted to ensure I had no leaks when I switched over to synthetic oil for the first time (Esso Extra XD3 0w30 PAO full synthetic).
I endorse the product. My engine runs so quietly at idle now that I literally can not hear it and it runs smooth as silk.
Granted I only had about 62K when I started the trial and the engine had about 70% plus highway miles on it.
For those with over 100k on the clock, ensure you do two applications.
In any case follow the instructions to the letter.
As stated above, go to www.bobistheoilguy.com and run a search on the Additives forum.
VQs are not sludge monsters, so the product may be more beneficial to other engines more prone to varnish and sludge buildup.

I still don't know about auto-rx. Soon after putting the first bottle in, my engine developed a rattle which sounds like it's coming from the vlave cover. I went on bobistheoilguy.com and asked a few people about it and they told me to stick with the treatment and use a second bottle since I have over 100,000 miles and they also stated that engine noises are normal during the treatment and will eventually go away when my last rinsing phase is finished.

i dont believe in that magic potion stuff.. it does more harm than good.. yea it i will clean the passages untill the oil gallaries get backed up.. and all the grime that is holding the valve seals from leaking is gonna get cleaned and make them leak...

I used it on my '96 with over 170K. I had great results and it didn't cause any weird sounds, leaking, or oil consumption. My mileage increased a little over 1 mpg which means that it pays for itself in a month with the amount I drive. I used it in the automatic transmisson as well and noticed a slight improvement. Shifts are a little stiffer now when it's cold, but the 3-2 kickdown is much better than before with much less hesitation. I now have about 185K.

Nonsense, in the case of AutoRX.

oh yea just u wait and see... people go for 200k miles on these motors with out using any addatives and they run strong.. why would you add anyting... all i know is that when i changed to synthetic all of a sudden the rear main started to leak as well as both the valve covers...

What mileage did you switch to synthetic at?

yeah, seals leaking really is a bummer. They usually don't recommend switching to synthetic at that mileage. IF people do switch it is usually at their "own risk" as leaks cannot be guaranteed from not happening at that mileage.
Did you switch the seals after the leak?
