so my alternator puts out 57amps at 2000rpm

so my alternator puts out 57amps at 2000rpm

at least thats what the guys at advance auto told me after testing it. that means my alternator is toast right? since it should be putting out like 100amps i think

what load did they apply? the alt should produce 100 amps if theres at least 100 amps load.

alternator output is based on rpm as well. think old-style dynamo on a bicycle, it gets brighter as you pedal faster. alternators a little more advanced because it has a diode bridge and voltage regulator that regulates your output voltage.

it doesnt mean its toast. as RPM increases output amps increase.
