how many oil qts?

Yeah it's definately 4.25. The dipsticks on the vq30de are completely ridiculous and innacurate but manufacturer spec says 4.25.
Weird that a midsized v6 doesnt take more. Theres a 4.2 liter ford v6 engine that takes over 7 qts

I am also surprised at the relative small amount of oil required. My SVX 3.3L took about 7qts.

Well when I was 16 I worked at an oil change shop and every car was running hot. So from my own experience, when all the oil was drained out completely till it stopped dripping, the maximas took 4.25. On any other car I'd say go by the dipstick. I've heard alot of people in the field say the same, theres something weird about our dipsticks. Maybe check it cold? I don't know.
Also keep in mind that the "specs in a book" were published by the people who built the engine. They ought to know the capacity.

in fact, I believe ATF has less detergent than motor oil -- which makes sense because there are no byproducts of combustion to deal with in a transmission. it is the presence of combustion that gets motor oil dirty to begin with, so motor oil has more detergents & dispersants than does ATF.

Oops, I was mistaken it's 9.5 not 9 qts!!
Do you think that's enough?

so how often do you change the oil? with 9.5 qts you should get at least 10k OCIs even with dino.
my '01 mercedes S500 has a 9 qt sump and the oil life monitor doesn't indicate a change until about 12k miles.

I can smell the gas in the oil after a short time. From what I've gathered fuel dilution is common in SC and turbo motors running higher boosts. I am running 11.5 lbs on my SC.
An oil accumulator is used in race cars to force extra oil into a motor to prevent dry starts. I bought one at Canton Racing and they sold me a 3 qt unit and removed all the internals so the cylinder has an in and out and I hooked it into the lines and basically it is like adding a new large sized oil pan!
