Steering Issue?

Hi All

when I turn the steering wheel all the way (either sides) at some point there's a loud "CLUNG" - only once. Then when I bring the steering whell back to the original position, there's the big CLUNG again at some point.

Any ideas?

ball joint. tie rod end. possible but not probable that it is the rack. jack up the car and see if there is side to side play with the wheel. see if there is up and down play with the wheel.

I just replaced the ball joints about 3 months ago... I'll check the tie rod ends; hopefully it's not the rack! Anybody here had their rack failling?

Yes, these steering racks can fail. I suggest you take it to a shop that will find the bad component. Changing all sorts of parts is a huge waste of time and money, and if you listen/read enough you'll think you need to change everything in the front suspension.

Are you sure you're not simply hearing the bump stops when you go full lock?

Positive. Thanks for the suggestion - I'll probably end taking it to the shop and save time trying to diagnose... Any idea how much $$ is involved in changing the steering rack?
