Monitors won't reset????? HELP please

my 97 keeps failing the smog test because the monitors will not reset. I.E. "evap system, not ready" should say "evap system, ready". I just got a ticket because i cant get it registered. ANYONE KNOW HOW TO RESET THIS OR WHAT I SHOULD DO? REALLY APPRECIATE IT. THNX

After resetting the ECU you must wait a while for the sensors to come back online. I forgot how long you need to wait, but it's probably a tank or two of gas.

yeah. thats what the mechanic said. i have already put over 1,000 miles on it. SHould of reset by now. Were all stumped, mechanics too. We might chage the oxygen sensor
