steering issues

I have a 99 maxima 5spd.

problem: I went back to stock suspension from having gc coilovers. No problems with steering. When I put the stock suspension back while still using my tokicos illuminas the problems started. I went to get the alignment done since it was way off due to strut removal. When I got it aligned the shop was tellingme that my steering rack maybe going out. It goes straight but then my steering wheel is at 1:00 and then it goes to 11:00. If I yank on the steering wheel hard it will then settle straight. The shop said it was just my rack and pinion bushings. But now with the cold when I first start the car and turn my wheel it shudders and my belts whistle. But once it warms its fine but I still have the steering wheel movement. Is my rack going out or is it the bushing.

Take a good look at the bushing. If you see any evidence of movement between teh bushing and the rack, then it's a bushing problem. If you don't see any evidence of movement, your rack might be shot.

The start up issue when the car is cold is most likely the P.S. belt. Replace it.
The worn bushings will cause your exact symptoms, have them replaced.
The rack - if it's not leaking, leave it alone.

I will get under the car and look for play on the bushings.

The belts are a few months old and the noise just started. But I will look to see if they need to be adjusted.
