05 05 - CEL has me stumped after several resets
Alright i'll try to include as much information as possible so you guys can maybe help point me in the right direction for this problem. Basically...it started about 2 1/2 weeks ago but the last thing I need is a big bill but i gotta fix her. Basically i used some injector cleaner and some of that premium shell vpower after a week but no luck there. While driving i sometimes feel like a lag in power for a couple seconds when acceleratin to 60 and its a horrible feeling. At stop lights, it makes something similar to a knocking noise to where i can feel it do a quick jerk sometimes. Some days it'll be good to me but other days it can be obnoxious when at a red light and I can't help but do anything to fix it.
Since this problem happened i've felt it wanna die but it'll revive itself back up real quick and it's only happened two or three times. The car is a 1997 se @ about 139k right now. Were the original owners so i am aware of its entire history. I still have 2k miles left before my next oil change and have already changed out a few things so hopefully this can eliminate the possibilities quicker. between 108k-115k i changed to ngk plat sparks, the pcv valve, knock sensor, radiator, and had a full service change with a flush. At 130k, my tranny died and i was forced to buy a new one ... then at about 137k, my starter died out on me too so that was brand new as well. I've never swapped my two o2's but i already have all new pipes underneath or the coils/injectors but haven't been an active enthusiast for a long time. It will also help to know i tried grabbing the code myself but was stumped when it only gave me 05 05 time after time and im afraid i'll let this problem grow into a much bigger one.

as for your code

as far as your problem, i'd suggest checking your coils.

0505 = all clear. can be set off by a voltage change. bad batt? checked ur alt? corrosion on terminals?
studdering problem, fuel filter? proper TB and IAC Valve cleaning? air filter? Gummout Regane or Redline? What type of oil do you use?

i had a 'jerking' problem too. later that problem turned into a misfire code. ended up having to get new coils. a clogged fuel filter may also make the engine hesitate though. if youve never replaced it that would be a good idea. esp before goin all out on coils (cheaper, easier)

The hickup or jerk is most likely a coil. Give it some time and hopefully it will detect the correct cylinder misfire and throw an error code. Took me about 3 months to figure out the hickup on mine.

took me a few months as well before the light came on. right now it seems like its a type c misfire, which means its intermitent and not very severe/the ECU has detected it yet (therefore theres no code). if you want, you could probably just wait it out and eventually get a code telling you what cylinder it is. but be aware that if you need an inspection than you wont pass the emissions part cause youll be putting too many HC's out the tail pipe.
hmm thanks a lot guys. As far as the corrosion on terminals i just put in a brand new battery and starter about a month and a half ago..I havent cleaned the iacv valve yet but replaced the fuel filter at about 120k so i guess the fingers definitely being pointed near coils. Guess im just gonna have to find out which one it actually is before blowing money on all 6. I guess the whole fact is im worried about the problems ill run into with all my o2's and original n about to pass 140k. Gonna try to take a closer look @ the coils..thanks guys
Ok theres my conclusion.... side feed fuel injectors are garbage... i say this because if they arent seated absolutely perfect (with a new oring and a pintle cap) they will leak!! causing the car to get a missfire like ur experiencing.. i know u didnt take any out but u used fuel injector cleaner which might have caused one of the orings to maybe deteriorate causing what ur explaining....
OR
One of the coil packs "could be bad" this is what u need to do... start the car and ONE BY ONE start to remove the coil pack harnesses... you should see a difference in how the motor runs after removing one.. now if u notice that u removed one harness and nothing happenes there lies ur problem...

05 05 means undefined or no trouble found. Can someone tell me what is going on. If there are no trouble, why did the cel come on? thanks
