AC compressor

Apparently its not as simple as it may seem to find an AC compressor for a 97. This is what I am asked:
thru 11/96
from 12/96 thru 4/97
5/97 only

Grr. 1) I am assuming that it does matter which one of those three I get? 2) How do I check when exactly my car was made? Thanks

To answer the question....open up the drivers door and look on the body of the car right above the door latch. Sticker is right there...tells you the manufacture date, VIN #, and a bunch of other stuff.

first -- what is wrong with your compressor? is it seized, or just noisy? if it's just noisy you can probably fix it without replacing the whole thing -- pulley bearing. see the maintenance sticky.

second -- you can get down under there and write down the info off the compressor to make sure you get the right one -- but in terms of replacement units, I don't think it matters, but I can't say for sure.
