I can understand that, but that doesn't answer my question. Why not part it out and THEN sell it out for auction? thousands of more $$$ would have been made that way, and fairly quickly. Unless the guy had only a day or two to get rid of the car (and I wonder what circumstance would put him in that position???), then he made a poor decision.

Why does it have to be a poor decision? He had his reasons and why should we care what his reasons were? It's his decision and not ours to question it....

I'm not questioning anything. I'm judging it. Do I stand on some high and mighty pillar? No. Is he really going to care what I think? No. But I have every right to express my opinion, which is this: When given three options, (A) Trading in a car for X amount of dollars credit on a different car, (B) Selling the car for X + Y (where Y > 0, and should be Y > 2000), or (C) Parting the car out for Z dollars and THEN trading it in for X dollars, yeilding X + Z (Z > 0, and should be Z > 3000);

Choosing option (A) is the poorest choice in the bunch. The only advantage to option (A) is needing to get money for the car FAST, as the other two options would take longer. However, all of those parts would have sold pretty quick on the org, heck, even the CAR would have sold well on the org for at a $2500 premium over trade.

However, his choice is his to make, and out of the sweat and work poured into this car, and out of the vat of money poured into it, and out of the kindness of this guys heart or the desperation of his situation or the misguidedness of his information... some lucky chap ended up with one GREAT deal on a turbo Max.

(Of course all this is assuming it showed up at a dealer auction and wasn't sold by the original owner at property auction... this would be an entirely different case because the car could have sold for much more $$$)

These kinds of cars only pass on the auctions once in a while. Auctions are crap. I'm russian and alot of my friends fathers are dealers (only thing they could do after immigrating here) so I'm always around body shops and the like. I have two auction cars prior to my 99 which I got private sale used. I will NEVER buy another auction car. NEVER. Take that from someone that has plenty of experience and first hand use of auction cars. Very rarely is there a car on the auction with NO problems.
