rant broke my belt tensioner!

rant broke my belt tensioner!

hey guys i had to replace my alternator today and when i tried to loosen up the belt tensioner bolt on i snapped the bolt! have any of you guys experienced this? tomorrow morning im going to order one through nissan but is there a way that i should have loosen the tensioner?

I just replaced my tensioner last weekend. The threaded rod was bent and the belt was squealing. Make sure you loosen the nut that holds the tensioner wheel to the bracket first and then adjust the tension on the belt. Then tighten the nut and your done.

I once broke the tensioner for the power steering belt. I was turning the adjuster bolt in the wrong direction, doh!

I've replaced the idler/tensioner on the alternator belt as well. Although the bolt didn't snap off. I hope you have some bolt material still protruding so you can get a grip on it.

yup, definitely snapped mine a while back. I just welded it back together and tapped it right-hand thread instead.

just got one from my local nissan dealership, apparently its a comon item that breaks, i got it for a pretty decent price $33.00 hopefully i can get my car back on the road soon.
