Anyone have any experience with these snow tires?
One better than the other, or are they all pretty much on par with each other? I live in NJ.

Hopefully the questions I have, haven't been answered elsewhere, I searched this thread, and through threads in general and cant find answers to my problems. If these questions have been asked and answered i apologize.

I am having two possibly separate electrical problems. First: When I go to start my car, the car will regularly go dead. The electrical completely shuts off, as if the terminals arent connected to the battery. If I pop the hood and play with the negative terminal, the electrical will start to work again. Sometimes this will happen repeatedly. I have asked around and the only advice I heard that made any sense was that my terminal post may be faulty. Unfortunately i was told there isnt really a way to test it other than to get a new battery, which i would rather not do unless i know the one i have is bad.

My second problem may or may not be related. My tail light fuse is repeatedly blowing. I checked all of my grounds and wires in the back near the tail lights and cant find anything that is out of place or disconnected.

My check engine light has been on for my PNP neutral safety switch, which i have purchased and plan to replace tomorrow. No other codes have come up. I dont know if that is related to either problem, but from what I understand of the codes and what not, it shouldnt. Maybe I am mistaken.

Any advice? thanks

Starting problem: Google "voltage drop test" You CAN definitly find the source of the bad connection. Could be as simple as terminals/battery posts need cleaning.

Tail-light: Keep looking, there is a short somewhere, could even be in the bulb socket itself.

PNP: More than likely not related to the starting problem since you mentioned everything goes dead.

Oh, and welcome to the .org Much appreciated that you not only searched 1st, but also that you located & posted in the proper thread.

I just recieved a JWT ecu from a 95 max. I know it will through codes so I tracked down the thread that says how to get rid of it. However wasn't there another thread where they had a diagram on where the ecu pins are located? Also how do you go about grounding the ecu?

Hey guys, I'm still semi new, haven't posted much, but I've definitely read alot of the FAQS. They've been very useful! Anyways my question has to do with audio as well. My friend and I were trying to figure out if there was a way to plug an MP3 player directly into the head unit VIA the antenna from behind or from the CD Changer input. He says hes pretty sure the changer one he's seen done. Something about the cable that fits it with a Y adapter. Has anyone done this in their max? I just want to avoid an expensive new head unit and I hate those FM radio hook ups >.<

If anyone could help it'd be great.

thanks for the help krrz350, i checked again and still cant find any connections that are bad, how would i tell if a socket itself is bad? I pulled all of them, but i cant see anything that would make me think theyre faulty.

Check the connections on the back of the Socket and look to see if they are clean. My Trans Am brake socket was all corroded and it shorted like that

Fog Light Installation

Hey all,

I have a '97 GXE without factory installed fog lights, so the front bumper has little plastic bars in the place they would usually be. Is it possible to install stock Maxima and/or aftermarket fog lights on my car without getting a new bumper? If so, how hard would it be to wire them? I looked around and searched but I couldn't find any threads that addressed this issue directly. I'm actually considering this install because I frequently commute through the mountains where it fogs up a ridiculous amount. Thanks for any info.

99 Max SE-L - CEL, car shakes, whines, revs too high and doesn't accelerate properly

Car: 1999 NIssan Maxima SE Limited, automatic, 81,700 miles, one owner

CEL: Code P0303 according to AutoZone
Symptoms:
1. The car shakes (sometimes violently) at idle (when I'm standing at a light and the car is in drive
2. Sometimes it even shakes while in motion, including during acceleration
3. It does not accelerate properly - terrible off the line, terrible at any given speed, really.
4. Sometimes it accelerates slowly and then just gives out a burst of speed (which is too much)
5. It produces a whining noise when accelerating or should I say attempting to accelerate.
6. It revs much too high. I've seen it rev up to 6,500RPM. At 45mph!

That pretty much sums it up, I think. I may be forgetting something.

What's been done in the last couple of months:
Replaced starter, replaced knock sensor, replaced injector on cylinder 1.

I live in Brooklyn. Does anyone know any good mechanics in the area who know these cars well?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

there might be some info in the stickies about this but i dont remember.

all you have to do to the bumper is cut out those little plastic pieces. i used a hack saw blade. and once the fogs are in you can't see the cut areas.

your car might be pre wired for fogs, just look behind the hole where they go and there should be some wire bundled up, it has a gray connector on it. some GXEs may not be pre wired if they don't have one of the package options.

you'll also need a relay and the headlight stock that has the fog controls on it. look for someone that is parting out an SE and they should have both things you need there.

assuming you have the proper wiring and then get the fog lights, mounting brackets, control stalk, and relay, you just bold up the mounts, put in the lights and plug them in, plug in the relay, then replace the stalk (just have to remove the steering wheel surround.). and your done

your problem is more than likely coils. 99s had those problems. you'll have to go through and test them all per the fsm, or just straight up replace them all.

Could you please elaborate. What are coils? WHat does fsm mean? How much would it cost to have them replaced?

Remove one or all of your coils. Look closely on them, you will find either the words HANSHIN or a small mitsubishi logo, keep looking, it's really small but it's there.

The ones manafactured by Mitsubishi are junk, they came on some '99's, this is all in the stickies.

I dont really know how a fm modulated cd changer works but i did this to my sony changer that is not fm modulated. i had to get the y rca adapter that would plug in to my mp3 player then i plugged the rca's into the input rca's that the cd changer is used for. then in order for the deck to switch over to the inputs from the y adapter i had to plug in the cd changer power so the deck could switch over to cd changer mode. i dont know if this will help you out any but this is what i did

For the 95 you can wire in an AUX output. You need to know how to solder and all. Solder wires to the specific connections on the board of the Bose and plug it into the Ipod. More too it then that but that's the jist. You need to do research to find the links tho. I can't supply them at this point since I'm not at my computer.

talking about ignition coils, they sit on top of the spark plugs. instead of having one coil and a distributer, there are six coils and the ecu tells them when to fire essentially.
fsm= factory service manual
if you go to the dealer its going to cost in excess of 600 dollars. you can pick up a set on here in the For Sale section for quite a bit less

Problem from a guy who knows jack about cars

I've spent an hour reading the forums and I couldn't find anything on this specific problem. It might not be covered, or I might be blind.

Anyway, I've recently encountered a problem whereby my 1997 Maxima (automatic transmission) will switch gears for no apparent reason at high speed- it will switch from top gear to third gear, and then back again in a period of a couple seconds.

It does this between 50 and 70 mph. The problem goes away if overdrive is turned off, at which point it stays in third gear as you would expect.

Any advice would be appreciated, or if there's another post on this a link would be helpful.

Have to push gas pedal to start car

Hi,

I have a 1995 Maxima GLE with 126K miles on it. I have had this problem for a few months now where when it is very cold I have to push the gas pedal repeatly to start the car. The problem is getting so bad that now I have to push the gas pedal to start the car everytime except when when it warmed up from previous driving. I have to give it gas for a second or two or else it will just die. I took it in for a diagnois and the mechanic found nothing wrong. I don't think it is the fuel pump because I can here it turning on and the starter is fine as the car cranks normally when I turn the ignition. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!!!

Hey everyone,

I was driving down the highway earlier today and the horrid check engine light began blinking...so I pulled over to check to see if I could see anything noticeable. Well, i noticed the engine was shaking a lot more than usual...

Drove home and did a check engine diagnostic.

This is what I came up with:

0608 - Cylinder 1 misfire

0304 - Knock sensor

So...now I just need some advice on what to do. And for the knock sensor, does anyone know where I can get cheap sensors? Thanks

Ok, so I wouldn’t take this as ‘a far bigger problem’ . It could be many items. But most likely it is a dead coil pack, horrifically easy to change, and fairly inexpensive.

It is in the stickys, How to change and how to test)

Car Alarm has left my Car stranded

Hi all,
I left my car lights on today and the battery went dead. I called triple AAA and they hooked their batter to mine. At that time the car went off. I went to the passenger side door and "unlocked" it by turning the key towards the rear twice. This shut off the alarm(I don't have the clicker). I tried to start the car but when I turned the key in to the on/start position the car alarm went off again!! So I took out the key and then it went off!! It seems that every time i try and start the car the car alarm goes off. THis is only when I try to start the car.

THe car won't start.

Please help

thx.

I have a 99SE and some kid slashed my tire about a week ago. When I bought the car, I never realized it didn't come with a wrench to take off the lug nuts (and I never really needed it.) I had about 4 people try all different sizes to get them off and finally one worked. But then the rim wouldn't budge. At all. There's no rim locks or anything like that so I really don't know what to do but I need to get this fixed, espically if it decides to snow. Anyone else ever have a problem like this or know how to fix the issue?

i have 97' maxima w/ almost 160,000 miles on it and my inner and outter tire rods havent ever been changed, and has been over heated and all tha seals are basicly busted and its slowly but surely losing compression. i got it from a friend and it runs but it misses shift points and kills every now and then. would it be a wiser decision to just buy another motor all together and just start new or have that motor taking apart and fixed?

so the rim is stuck to the hub and there are no lug nuts left on, and you have the car jacked up?
i'd just hit the wheel around the edge with my hand or a hammer and a block of wood, moving around until it pops free

it would probably be cheaper to get a lower mileage motor and swap it in.

Here's one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-Con...QQcmdZViewItem

Please be advised that these are NOT the poor quality OE brand name control arms that are being talked about on Maxima discussion boards. These are Altrom brand. They come with full one year warranty. You will see that they are comparable to what you get from the Nissan dealer.

I wonder how tru this statement is
