Sorry, by "going off" i meant sounding...like my horn blares, lights flash, all that stuff.

I'd rather not have to unlock the door, then open the trunk, is this a sensor that I can replace?

I will try to do the alarm test tonight. When I try to open the door, should I unlock it first? Or just pull the handle?

Thanks!

New question (I'm a complete noob at modding cars.)
Where is the Y-pipe located? I finally found out that a B-pipe is the mid-pipe, which connects the cat to the muffler, but is the Y-pipe the piece that connects the manifold to the cat? Or am I completely off here)

My taillights won't shine when I have my headlights on (i.e. at night). The bulbs aren't burnt out, they work as brake lights, hazards, turn signals...just not as tail lights in the dark. Is this common on 4th gen Maxima's? I'm not sure how long this has been like this (my husband just noticed it last night), but my SES light recently went off, maybe even the same day (I don't bother with it, it's just a pest). Help!

You sure you using the correct bulbs?

These are the same bulbs, I've never changed them. Just all of a sudden they don't work as tail lights anymore, but still as brake, hazard, backup, etc.

The brake lights are dual filament bulbs, so my guess is that one of the filaments is out. You might also want to check brake light fuses in the cabin.

Hazards are a different set of bulbs as well as back -up. Check the fuses.

the y pipe connects both of the exhaust manifolds together and then dumps into the Cat. if you're under the car and follow the exhaust forward from the cat you'll see it going under the engine to the front manifold, and up to the rear manifold

More info: I no longer get an indicator beep that I've left my lights on either. My boss was leaving and called to let me know my headlights were on. I thought "it didn't beep"...and I tested it to see if it would, and it did not. So, my symptoms are - when headlights are on, no tail lights and no indicator beep signal when key is removed.

Whew, good, i'm not completely clueless then, thank you!

How long does this typically take? I read that it doesn't produce much, if any sound difference.

Here's my plan as of right now:
1. Keep noise at a minimum (Highly policed area...no $$ for tickets)
2. Get a Y-pipe
3. Replace rusty B-pipe w/ a stainless steel one (Does replacing this with an aftermarket one produce a lot of noise?)

Does this sound ok?

the beeping device is on the back of the panel below the steering wheel. if you reach behind there you can check if it is unplugged or take it out and test it with a battery or something.

look in the exhaust sticky at the top of the forum on how to do it. plan out a good chunk of time to do it, i'd say atleast 2 hours for your first time.

if you keep your stock muffler and b-pipe, no it will not make much of a difference, you can hear the difference a tiny bit but its not going to draw any attention at all.

if you get a resonated b-pipe it shouldn't increase the amount of noise your exhaust creates too much, i can't vouch for this part, but an aftermarket resonator probably wont be as quiet as stock but probably fairly close. along with the stock muffler it'll keep the noise down.

Why do you need to reset your ECU? Check the codes, (which automatically clears them) And you're good.

Thanks man.

New question: If I wanted to lower my car (Not a lot) but wanted to keep the same soft ride, how would this best be accomplished?

I've been reading up on it and it seems like if I keep to OEM struts/shocks but get H&R Sport Springs, it will accomplish my goal. Is this true? Or should I look at aftermarket struts?

what have you been reading? Aftermarket springs destroy stock struts. If you want to lower your car you will not get stock feel. Coilovers are your best bet because they are adjustable for dampering as well.

Hey... I got a 96 max and was wondering if i could just get the front and rear bumpers(97+) and change it? I dig the longer sportier look

edit : how much would that cost? also how much to convert steering wheel to 97

Sounds like you might need a MAF. The MAF code will probably pop up pretty soon, I’m guessing.

Not sure about the tranny code. Do you have the DR mod or anything like that?

Actually, the idle has been low, but it's been low since I bought it (400-500rpm)

Recently my gas mileage has gone down the crapper though...

What about the tran code? Any ideas on that?

My car idles rough/shakes when stopped at lights or stop signs but only after the car has warmed up and reached operating temperature. One mechanic said it was the MAF but when I replaced that, the issue continued occuring. I know my rear engine mount is bad and I am planning on replacing that in a couple days but that shouldn't be the problem because if it were then the shaking would occur at all times regardless of temperature. Any ideas what this could be? I am also sitting on the MAF I bought from Oreilly so if anyone wants to take it off my hands for a price, let me know.

Quick hypothetical:

Could I put the 5th gen muffler on my 4th gen? Would it be louder? I ask because I saw it and liked it much better. Would it bolt directly on?

you could it wont fit quite right in the cut out since there are two tips coming off it, no it wouldn't be louder, if so not much at all. i dont think it is a direct bolt on

yes you can. It isn't direct bolt up and the hangers are different. It doesn't fit well out the back and does add a tiny bit of sound but nothing you'll notice really. All experience btw. If you can get one cheap it's not a bad idea because it is a better muffler.

Blower Motor stopped working:

I'm not getting any juice to the blower motor (I took it out and used a tester on the connection). Since I have the automatic climate control, there's no resistor. Is there a relay or something else that is accessible to check or is time to go to the shop? Thanks!

cel on after degressing engine

I degressed the engine in my 1995 maxima and now my engine light is on. I read the codes and I have a code 0103 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor & 0304 Knock Sensor. I was wondering if it is a common problem .

problems showing up after washing the engine bay are common enough, just have to be careful.
ECTS and KS are pretty common things to go out at this age or our cars.

So if it's not a direct bolt-up, what kind of modification would I have to do?

just need the shop to bend the connecting pipe. The stock b-pipe doesn't line up with the 5th gen muffler pipe. Shop just needs to cut the pipe and reweld it on at a different angle. Least that was what mine was.

By "shop" do you mean a custom shop? or could I just take this down to Midas?
