Yes you can. However, keep in mind that the rear bumper cover is slightly different from 95-96 to 97-99. Therefore, the tip of the muffler will either stick out more than normal, or be recessed in. (Sorry, can remember which) Hopefully someone will chime in and clarify.

However, if it's aftermarket, they just make the b-pipe the same length as the 95-96 correct? To get rid of the s-pipe?

I bought replacement Walker b-pipes for both, and 97 b-pipe was shorter and did not include the short piece of pipe (you called it s-pipe). It is the little piece right after the catalitic converter that had the rear oxy sensor in it.
So, I guess it all depends on the manufacturer of the aftermarket pipe. Walker replacements were direct copies of Nissan parts.
good luck,
Max
p.s. why not just order the part for your car year?

I just replaced catbacks on my 95 max and dad's 97 max.

Edit: it seems like they are 2.25" can anyone confirm?

2.25" is OEM. Since it's an odd size, most AM companies go with the more common size of 2.5". All bolts up together just fine with no leaks.

I'm looking to see if there is any benefit to clearing the computer on the car now that I changed the sparkplugs.
I think the plugs were the originals in the car and I replaced these with coppers.
Thanks ahead of time.

No need to reset ECU for spark plugs as long as you don't have a Check Engine Light on, then you probably have some other issue

once you have it disarmed, pull the fuse and viola' no more nuisance alarm.
Also, please:
a. learn to speak proper english so we can actually understand you, not everyone speaks ghetto.
b. don't type in capitals, it is considered yelling.

i've read somewhere that if the timing chain skips a tooth or more that messes the ecu up and will cause spark problems. i haven't looked into that too much though. make sure that those 2 cylinders have a spark - pull the sparks out and leave plugged into the coil, then star the car and see if they spark - if they don't then i guess it would be a possible timing chain issue. when people replace the tc tensioner the chain will sometimes skip.
And if anyone in the future runs into a problem with coils 2 & 3 not sparking, check your timing... Brilliant!

I have now had my 09 Maxima for about 2 months, great car and very good all around. Lately I purchased a new Nano iPod and connected it with the Nissan Supplied cable, apparently the new version of the iPod is not supported by Nissan and therefore the iPod will not recharge while connected. Has anyone found a different cable that will charge the iPod? worse comes to worse I suppose I can go back to the old iPod but would rather not.
Thank you for your help

The other option might be a "u-pull-it" yard.

97 won't start
ok so she was working fine all day. I made a stop and when i went to start her up she fires but won't start and I just get this sound like its not getting gas. autozone told me to change the spark plugs, no good. when I give her gas she justs smokes from the tailpipe. Fuel Injectors? i also have a bad egr valve that I haven't replaced yet could that be the problem?
#2156
What? The spark plugs were no good? What kind of spark plugs did you put in? Or no good as you couldn't change them?
Nope, that won't cause any of the symptoms you've described to my knowledge.
#2158
Could be lots of things. Starter, battery, bad fuel pump etc.
What? The spark plugs were no good? What kind of spark plugs did you put in? Or no good as you couldn't change them?
So now the car is started and running???(rhetorical q) Before you said it wouldn't start?? What color is the smoke??

The battery is fine, the starter I haven't checked yet. I meant that when I changed the spark plugs that didn't fix the problem. It never actually started. As I tried to start the car after changing the plugs I gave her gas and she started smoking but never really started, just kinda "whirred". when I tried to describe the problem to the people at autozone they stood there looking like a box of rocks, so I have no idea whats going on. A mechanic I know told me to clean the fuel injectors but didn't sound too sure.
Do you have a 99 Max by chance??? If so, the dreaded immobilizer problem got you.
EDIT: nevermind. I see you have a 97.
