Hi guys, new here, ive searched, and somewhat found what i was looking for, hear me out before deleting this thread. My check engine light came on, i came to these forums for the answer, and there is a great explanation and walkthrough for "4th gen" maximas, i have a 99 se 5 speed manual tranny. well under the walkthrough, someone posted with pictures, what to do for a 99, because it is slightly different, and yes it seems to be, BUT, the pictures are not working, and i cant tell exactly what i need to do, ive got the cover off, and i THINK im at the ECU, but it says for IDLE ADJUSTMENT on what i think is the ECU. so any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

i-30 hood on 4th gen?

Has anyone used the i-30 hood on their 4th Gen? What mod/fab was required? Was thinking about this the other day cause im not feeling the 99grille, but tryna avoid doing the same old 95-96 that everyone else does. Thanx for taking time to reply.

You need an i30 front end and fenders to fit the hood.

EVAP fault code

Hey guys, sorry if this is one of those topics that has been beaten to death already, but I've read the FAQs and stickies over and over and I can't find a definitive answer to my problem. I need to take my '97 GLE through emissions this month and I've had the SES light on for awhile. I checked the codes and got the dreaded 0705 EVAP Control System and 0903 EVAP Canister vent control valve codes. I cleared the codes once before only to have the light come on again a few days later. Is it possible to uh, "cheat" and clear the codes right before I have it tested, or will it still more than likely fail testing (in CT)? As far as doing the right thing and fixing the problem goes, can anyone point me in the right direction as far as what components to specifically check and/or replace? I ask because the FAQ mentions it could be any number of things.....is there a certain part or parts in the EVAP system that typically go bad?

Thanks in advance for any helpful replies and thanks to the thread starter for giving us noobs a break.

if i get a new throttle body (probably from a pathfinder or 350z) will it just be bolt on, or will i need to alter anything in the engine bay?

Really? Is it just that simple (assuming that it's a simple job)? Are they available at your local Autozone, or is this something that needs to be ordered from a dealer?

nissan. It's not a guarantee to fix the problem but it should since that's the code you're pulling.

I have a 1995 Maxima GLE with 195k miles that I purchased last Monday. Its a great solid car but has very weak acceleration and throttle response.

I know it is older, high mileage car but it should definitely be more peppy than it is. If I were to 0-60 test it I would be lucky to get 10 seconds.

Is there a common problem that might cause it? I replaced all the spark plugs recently and did regular maintenance on it.

Thanks!

most people forget that regular maintenance involves a fuel filter......

Yes, very common problem, the knock-sensor, read all about it in the 4th gen stickies. And seafoam that thing....

Thanks

Yup I did the fuel filter and sea foamed it all. It did help a bit but still didnt help the acceleration issue.

Is there a way to fix a knock sensor or is it pretty much a buy a new one?

no its not because of the spoiler. there might be problems with the latch. try to take a look inside your trunk from the back seat.

the 99's are known to have problems in them. i have a 98 maxi and it runs like a charm. i don't really know bout the 97's but from what people are saying i'm guessing its a good bet...

hey i have a question. i've heard people say that you should only use premium gas on a maxima, with an octane rating of 91 or higher. i know premium gas is better than regular but does it make a big difference or is it really worth the extra 20 cents per gallon to go premium??

and also if people could please reply to this by telling me which type of gas they use (regular, midgrade, or premium) and how much mileage they get on a whole tank.

thnx in advance.

Is there a fix on Fuel indicator light?

My fuel indicator light will not turn on when the level is very low. Is there a fix for this? Is this an easy fix?

Hey,

Thanks for the above replies regarding my acceleration issue. ECU'd the sucker and of course knock sensor came up as well as random misfire and primary ignition fault.

Now heres a new question...

Will a 2001 Pathfinder HU fit in a 95' Max? Some say it does but id like to check here. Is it a direct fit? Any wiring issues? BTW its also a Bose deck.

Thanks

That's what it's supposed to do ~ 2-2.5 g left in tank. It's a friendly reminder.

I would suggest a y-pipe.

Ive never ran out of gas but Im pretty sure Ive got real low where it should have turned on. I rarely fill up unless the needle is on the E. And ya now its always on, sorry. I was thinking since I changed a bulb with an led I might have the pos/neg backwards but that should make it so it never lights also, I dont know.

Im confused by what you said, so say you have a full tank for example, should the light be on or off?

I messed up. It's a low fuel indicator light. It typically comes on when you have ~2.5g left in the tank.

i'm not sure about it fitting or not but if you dont have a bose system in your max then the bose HU coming out of the pathfinder wont work because you will have no power going to your speakers, and thus will hear squat.

did you fix the problems or are you ignoring them? Seems like you disregarded the problems haha. Anyways, yes the 01 PF hu fits. You need to drill new holes tho.

Thanks, Will I need a new wiring harness? I have the Bose system btw.

About the problems, no.. i havent yet done anything with them haha. Im gunna pick up a new knock sensor. That is fix obviously the knock sensor issue and I think the random misfire. As for the primary ignition fault... I have no clue, ill have to research the code and see what that tells me.

when I changed the spark plugs the front right (looking at the engine from outside) it obviously wasnt firing, corroded, oily and stuff.

I changed that plug, ran for about a week and re-checked it. It was clean and had been firing properly. So that may be the primary ignition fault? I havent rechecked or reset my ecu since.

*edit* Sorry, its a 00 - 01' MAXIMA and I30 Bose hu, not the Pathfinder, I dont know what I was thinking. But yeah, is it the same thing?

Thanks

one quick question: On my Maxima, if I turned off the engine, pull the keys out, and still have the leadlights on, it doesn't warn me or make this warning sounds like most cars do. How can I make it possible? Is there anyone who has done it before?

id suggest fixing everything but the knock sensor, reseting the ecu light, and driving the car as usual for a while. i had the knock sensor code about a month ago along with some others and i fixed the rest and it still hasnt tripped it again. the knock sensors in max's almost always trip the light if anything else is making it go off.

No it's not the same thing. The 00-01 hu is angled. It will not fit in the spot for the stock hu. You need a 95-99 stock or an 00-02 PF. I believe there is a 350 hu that can fit as well. Just need to look at pictures and figure out the shape. The connectors will be the same.

For the firing problem, look into your coils.

Yes it does have it. When you open the door and the lights are on it beeps. If it doesn't you need to look at your fuses and wiring.

I'd suggest reading the stickies a little before giving advice, the knock sensor does not trip the cel, most people don't know they have a ks code until something else causes a cel and then they find that code to. you probably still have it....
