An auto trans is like pulling more weight because it has to go so much things like torque converters and all that crap. An auto will use more air and fuel to get up to speed while a stick will use less fuel to get up to speed because it has less work to get through. Thats why when u drag race a stick is better for more speed and thats why a stick maxima is faster than an auto even when they do that auto trick thing where they make it shift really hard.
When my dad switched his Nova from AT to 4MT,. he picked up 15 MPH and about 3 10ths in the 1/4. This is due to a more solid link between motor and Tires. Imagine driving/racing with a slipping clutch, your gonna get worse mileage.

Ok thanks for the link will read thru that as well.
Another thing if you do change the final drive gear to you have to change the gear that it meshed with on the other shaft??
Seeing as i would be going form 4.13 to 3.65 thats a bigger difference than 3.8 to 3.65 so the size may be too much to fit in would it??
As i yet to look inside the tranny i'm not sure which it meshes with by looking at the gears in the diagrams. Cheers Vee

Final Drive gear
So would there be anyone that has a 3.823 standard final drive laying around that could give me some measurements off it like overall outside diameter and also the inside diameter and width of the gear across the teeth so i can compare to an auto 3.65 final gear to see if it would bolt onto the manual final drive itself. I do know there is 65 teeth on the standard one and 17 on the pinion but thats about it.
The imported VQ20DE manual has 76 teeth final gear and 17 on the pinion so they are interchangeable.
I may just buy the 3.823 and not bother investigating the 3.65 if i cannot get any info on it.
Any help would be appreciated. cheers Vee

I can get you that info but it might not be until the end of next week or the beginning of the following week at the latest.
