complications to replacing antenna mast

Hi all,
I searched and read all the threads about replacing the antenna mast and how easy it is, looked at http://gen3.4mg.com/ also, assuming that antennas are all same in gen3 and gen4.
And then I went on to really go and replace it for my '98 Maxima SE. I easily unscrewed the retaining nut. Took the whole thing out from the car. Now the problem is that there is something like a rubber washer that is glued to the mast and is stuck in the retaining nut itself. Because of this I am not able to get the retaining nut off the old broken mast.
The new mast came with the collar at the base of the mast, so I just need the retaining nut from the old mast.
1. Has anybody had this problem, or can help me figure this out ?
2. Can I buy the retaining nut anywhere ?
I'll appreciate all the help.
