enhancements to my car

im going to get the max the day before school starts and i been trying to fix it up over time. i was planning on getting a sound system, tint, get a new hood (the paint is really messed up from the sun), alarm?, shaving, and im wondering if i should take out the wood grain and replace it with chrome or not. but i am also not sure if im going to have the max for long because i dont noe if im getting a new car after grad from high school. if yall have anymore suggestions on what i should do, suggestions are welcome! also advice on what to do and what not to do to make it worth it. i dont want to put a lot of money into it and not have it for long. i have my jr and sr year left in high school to help y'all determine what i should or should not do in those 2 years.

EDIT: also wondering what that new hood restoration thing seen on tv is. it says something about putting a coat over it. and for anyone what ever tried it, does it work?

Make sure everything is mechanically sound with the car first (suspension, tranny, belts, engine, ETC...) After you determine the state of the car, get fluids replaced (oil, tranny, coolant, power steering). Then for the remainder of your cash i would put into a exhaust or suspension of some sort, or repainting as you said. If you are heavily into the show and no go then go for the audio, tint, and interior stuff (just not my thing). Ultimately its your car, and most importantly YOUR choice on what to do to it.

hope this helps

yea, my dad got all of the engine work and fluids re done like a week ago to make sure its all good. probably gonna need to check the oil and all. im not really into entering my car into a show but i do like sound and i need tint to make sure no one looks into it and try to steal my system. any other suggestions?

I agree. I would go for preformance as well (y-pipe, intake, lowering springs..), but it depends on what you want to do with your car.

ok, i'll consider performance after i get the sound system and tint. i'll probably have some money left over but the problem is finding someone around here to install it. i'll probably get some different rims after the system because all i got is hubs right now. probably going to look for some cheap alloys.

Is this a hand-me-down or are you buying it. Also, manual or auto?

honestly with what you stated above. keep the car possilby for 2 years. i would invest in stuff that can be transfered over to the next car. like wheels, and audio stuff and then if you still have more money i would seriously consider DO you really want to keep or get a another car and either save up more money or start spending on performance or something.

i dont think its worth modding an old car. save up for a 2000 + max and then do something to that

honestly, ure in highschool, how much money do u make a month? how much will u pay for insurance and gas ?

take those things into consideration before throwing money on tint rims and sound or performance

oh and one more thing, tinted windows scream: "i got something inside i dont want u to see!!!" and theives go for that

I would just get it into working condition and do all the maintainence. You are still in highschool! Don't drop a bunch of money into it cause you'll prolly just wind up driving it into something. Plus if you screw with your car's look it's inviting retard kids to mess with it. If you really must "mod" it keep everything stock looking, and scare the crap out of some unsuspecting students.

yea i know what you're getting at thats what i was planning to do except the tint. i don't want to waste money on something that i won't have for a while.

I agree with The 3d Manget all the mechanically work done, don't worry much about your bumpers, and stuff like that.

Once you've had it for a while then I would start putting work into it, that's IF you change your mind about not keeping it for long.

And out of curiosity, why aren't you keeping the car longer? It's a spectacular car.

Keep us up to date!

i would like to keep it longer but the mileage is geting too high. once i grad from high school, i'll probably try and get a used 5th or 6th gen with low mileage and transfer the audio to that. i'll try and keep yall posted on what i do though. if anyone else got any other suggestions please post! thanks.

something you might want to look into is if you are going to bring you car with you to college...and all those other considerations i am sure. i got my max about a year ago when i graduated from high school. it's mechanically sound, it had 76,000 miles when i got it and its a 98 gle.

so far this first year in college, i barely use my max and i still get raped for insurance for not even driving the car.

honestly try to keep the max you have now and do some minor mods but nothing too fancy. 110,000 miles might not be anything for the max, these cars can make it easily to 200 K as long as you treat it right. try to keep it til you graduate from college and buy yourself a brand new car or something, thats what i'm planning on doing.

Get your system that way you can atleast enjoy your music in the car. Wait until you know what you're going to be doing in the next four years and go from there. Also get 504 painted on the hood of your car.

jono, once i get the car im going to start driving a lot. my friends and i go somewhere every night pretty much and in new orleans, nothing is close. but im trying to keep it as long as possible like you said.

ouzo, im going to put the sound system in ASAP. whenever i got time away from football practice maybe on a saturday with no games or a sunday with no work i'll probably get it installed or just drop it off while at work and tell my brother pick it up or something.

for the system, im planning on getting:
2 12" Kicker CVR dual 4 ohm
2 Alpine MRP-M450
JVC KD-G430 Head Unit with Ipod connection
2 sets of 6.5" Alpine Type-S co-axials (not sure on this. if yall got any suggestions please send them this way.)

and for the tint, im getting either 15% or 20% all around.

If I was you I would get a pioneer or clarion instead of jvc because of sound quality. The subs are ok. I would maybe look into getting a 12" L5 or two 12" type r's for speakers look into infinities. Also you might want to amp your speakers. Just my opinion

dont modify a car your not attached to...you even said your self you dont know if your gonna have it for long...so why bother with anything expensive? This is not a question to ask other people, this is a question to ask your self...what does it REALLY mean to you to have these things on your car? who are you actually doing it for?
I got my maxima sophmore year and here i am 2+ years and 40k later. I'm not selling the car, in fact i bought a second vehicle. Im not getting a car for graduation because i'd rather have that money go towards something else or not waste my parents money at all for that matter.
I've invested just over what we paid for the car 2 years ago IN MODS and repairs for this car. The more i modified, the more i would find myself pushing the car and breaking stuff on it. It doesnt bother me because I'm committed...its a relationship.
So just take some time to think about it...dont let someone else convince you or talk you into something. One day its tint and a drop, the next day its a vq35 and a 5 speed.
Managing your money is up to you.

My buddy put in reference with a mtx amp and it sounds very nice.

They are little underpowered but not bad. The highs are intense and the lows are good being that the speakers are 6 1/2". If you got the money you could do the kappas but the reference will still kill.

i was looking at those after i was suggested to get infinity's. i was trying to decide between the 6022i/si and those.

chillin, i decided to not put any mods into the car that i cannot transfer besides tint and alarm. those are a must for the 2 or more years im going to be driving my current max. as for the sound system, i can always transfer it to the new car.

i hear ya. My dad said he was planning on buying me a new car for graduation (like a year ago he told me this). I told him not to bother. I figure, in order to upgrade from the maxima i'd have to get something worth 15k+ and he does so much for me already Id feel guilty that he spent that much on me. Plus, then i'm starting all over with the modifying and insurance will automatically cost more.
kids at my school wrecked their cars and then their parents bought them brand new 20 30 and 40 thousand dollar cars which to me is just retarded.
i'll stick to what i know.
