Whirring during acceleration

Whirring is the only way I can describe this sound, but this is what I am experiencing...

First off, the clutch bearing on this car had been going out since March '06. How it lasted this long? Who knows but I was ready!

The Noise: At first it started real faint when taking off in 1st, and then part of 2nd, and then it would die off in 3rd. I thought it might have been brake pads rubbing, or wheels are uneven, etc. Switched wheels, replaced brakes and disks... SAME SOUND AT SAME INSTANCES.

Now it's gotten louder and lasts into 3rd and 4th but at lower speeds under heavy acceleration. On the freeway (expressway or turnpike for all you others) you don't hear the sound at all even if i'm in 3rd and go WOT.. same in 4th.

If you still can't make the sound in your head, here's a GREAT example...

Yes, ladies and gents.. my car goes woooooooo woooooooooo! under heavy acceleration and no, there is no whistle tip installed as a prank! I checked!

The car is going on blocks tomorrow as I'm preparing it for a nice road trip.. got Exedy clutch and a 2k1 tranny going in.. as well as brand new AGX's so please, make suggestions as to what to take apart and look at. I will post pics to keep this documented if you guys want to see what a certain part looks like, for the sake of diagnosis.

Thanks ahead of time for the help!

It has to be clutch/trans and not wheel related... last night i drove it around before putting it on blocks and i went WOT and then pressed in the clutch right to the point where it disengages and the noise cuts out.. starts again right when i re-engage.

Sounds like a braking train and it overpowers the injen and cattman exhaust sound... i just took off all the tranny bolts so we'll see.. hoping it's just the bearing and clutch.. replacing everything including trans anyway.

Thanks guys for your input!

Me too.

I have the same problem. Esp when I rest my hand on the shifter.
Mine is not THAT loud though. Its loud enough to cause an annoyance... but nothing more serious than that.

My garage simply said, its a lot of hours and a lot of money for nothing.
But its in the tranny.
