starter selinoid or motor???

ok my starter is shot. the selinoid doesnt click for sh*t so im pretty sure its shot. (keep in mind it hasnt worked in about a month i know, it sucks.)

but when people say their starters are out what usually is the bad part. the selenoid or the motor because i dont really want to start throwing parts at my car considering im 18 and have no money.

if you guys can help thatd be great

take the starter to autozone.. or advance auto... they'll check it out for ya...

i had autozone test my bad starter and it "passed the test" over there. i dont think it measures the torque its putting out. i had to go back like 3 times to get the guy to honor the "limited lifetime warranty".

take off your snorkel and tap the solinoid a few times and try to start. that worked for me for about a 2 days. my advice is to jsut get a new start is your sure its that.

just because a starter checks out on their bench test, doesn't mean it really works. Often the heat of the engine makes a starter not work (like if you've driven somewhere, then park if for a little bit and come back out to try and start it)

It's actually not hard to take the starter apart and check everything for yourself. Look for messed up insulation, or melted coils, look for worn down brushes. Regrease the planetary gears. Clean all the dirt off the coils and around the magnets.
