EVAP problems fixed for free??
EVAP problems fixed for free??
So I have the 0111/p1447 code and no others. I've been searching through the old threads on this code and the advice is to basically replace everything. That's a lil expensive. Well I googled evap canister maxima and this was the first link:

Can anyone confirm if this is legitimate? Also is there a 'statute of limitations' on this? I'm a '96 owner and this seems too good/lucky to be true.
Any thoughts..?

I haven't actually checked yet. I'm waiting for the heat to break and I'm going to investigate this evening. But if this document is still valid I think it'd be worth taking to the dealer. It doesn't list any real limitations but it was issued in Feb '99 so I don't know if the dealer would take an 11 year old car with 180k on it and do the service for free
The emission control system that prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Well that's a dead end:
A limitation pertains to the age of the vehicle. In order to be eligible for remedy at no cost, the vehicle cannot be more than 8 years old on the date the defect or non-compliance is determined. Under the law, the age of the vehicle is calculated from the date of sale to the first purchaser.
And that's for a recall, this was only a tsb. Back to square one. New question, since code 0111 (p1447) is a jackpot code is there like a ranking of what's most likely wrong. I read in an older thread something like 10-15 possible reasons this code is tripped.
What is most likely wrong -> least likely?

I recieved this code and I still have it after couple thousand miles. When it first showed up I cleared the code and then it came back and I kept driving on it for a couple hundred miles and eventually it threw another code which gave me a sensor code for the evap. I replaced the sensor but yet the 0111 code is still there. Id wait and see if a new code showed up. I am thinking it may be the canister that bad. I havent taken it off yet but it is suppose to weigh in at a certain weight.
Do you by chance have a strut bar installed? If so it may have hit the black round thing I forgot what it called and broke it. It sits right on top of the intake manifold.

Yeah I do have a fstb, I bent the metal brace so there's no pressure on it; but the code popped up a couple weeks before I installed the fstb so that's not it. I'm installing (cross fingers) the passenger cv shaft this evening so I'll have to take a look at the canister then. I was hoping I'd get another/specific code but it's been a couple months now and June is inspection time for me
