and here is what im looking for:

a) i would like it to have a compass (must)
b) i would also like it to have the temperature outside (must)
c) i would like it to have a home link key so i can use the garage door (not a must but a would like)
d) would also like it to not be a whole lot bigger, but a little bit but also look as stock as possible
e) it would be nice if it would use the same mounting point, or if i could fabricate something to use the stock mounting point (not a must)

so if you guys have any ideas on a cars rear view mirror that fits this description i would greatly appreciate it. thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any and all help.

1fstmax (i think) just put a window mount cx7 mirror in his ride, i think not too long ago. i think it meats all of your requirements

The QX4 mirror displays a compass and ambient temp, but I get the feeling that the ambient temp gets its reading from a separate signal. I think the I30 autodimming mirror has a compass in it, but no ambient temp.

If you want homelink you can get the driver's side homelink visor. If you have rolling codes you need to get a specific one though.

i know for a fact i would really like it to display the temp and the compass. the homelink keys was just for fun really not a must a have. and if it could display them both all the time, that would be perftect.

i think i may just look into this visor though.... hmmm.

 

You can use the sun visor from a 97 thru 99 Max for the homelink feature. As for the mirror, look at the 5th Gen Maxima's they have the compass and auto dimming feature, there are other cars with all the features you asked about but they are going to be real expensive (hundreds). I'm sure you can find both cars in a junkyard somewhere in Tx.

 

ya im starting to notice that a mirror from another car is gonna cost at least 150 - 200.

oh ya is the 5th gen mirror a roof mount liek the 4 gen or is a windshield mount?


thanks for the advice though, i will give a few calls for the 5th gen mirror. but that leaves the thought of how do i get an outside temp gauge inside the car? while also keeping it as stock and clean looking as possible.

i just want a compass cause my ACC shows my amb temp. they are 50-100 on ebay. also roam around other forums.

 

is that the stock ACC in the 98 you are referring too?

$50-100 rear view not fully what you wanted nor what i want either but you dont have to go nissan. The guy we speak of with the madza picked it up in a madza forum for $5-10 bucks only. A lot of american cars have them. just gotta get lucky.

My ACC is in my 98 with a custom button. showed 101 yesterday =(

for me personally i dont need the temp and i rarely think any OEM one has temp. most temp displays now are in the cluster or still on the ACC. the auto-dim is useless because i have tints and well if i wanted a blue mirror i would tint that too. Just the compass interest me because i dont know what way i'm going. would be nice to say hey i'm going north bound on this and be sure of it. plus with compass and auto dimming mirrors it only requires + and - connections. The temp would require amb sensor. like this

it will look like a mirror.... Remember, mirrors with temp run off a separate sensor the car has. You need to get that harness to have ambient temp. Not all the mirrors come with them so if you are looking at that last mirror make sure it doesn't need a harness or has one with it.
