What drives you to keep your car?
Our Maximas are 9-10 years old and I'm just wondering what drives you to keep your car.
What drives you to keep modding it and spending large amounts of $$$$ on it?
I'm kinda considering a trade.... we'll see.

i just got it at the end of last october and the maintenance is almost fully complete (and i mean ALL the maintenance, brake fluid is next after that its suspension that needs to be addressed and then the tires/wheels/rims)
thats what drives me to keep the car, the fact that it runs very well and nothing has broken down yet, so we'll see...

First, i'd say the 4door sport car feel... especially the 5spd. also LUXURY(leather, sunroof, etc...)
Second, Most nissan cars are made to last... I just hit 208K and its still runing strong.
Third, No car payments. and under 5K to buy a new one... and still on the street so its not really old....

Ok, so another one under 5grand is not really a "new" car. Maybe new to you, but not really new.
I'm considering a wagon... subaru or VW.
Both are turbo and have 5/6 speed available. Subaru (of course) is all-wheel drive.
I don't know, I like the Maxima and all, and I have a fair amount of money into it. That's $ I just won't get back even with a private sale.
I think I've reached the end of the "easy" bolt-on mods and that's really pulling at me. All that's really left to do (that I want done) is a body kit (Stillen of course), 00vi, motor mounts and SFC's. Maybe R34's with a retro. That's really large $$$ for us Canadians though.
Motor is still way to good to even temp fate and think about stuffin a 3.5.

I'm with nismology. VQ, underdog, and I really like the styling of the car, in and out.

I own 2, I love them always have, I don't daily drive them and so when I start to think about selling them I drive it and cant, which is sad considering I have been parting it out here and there... the day will soon come though. and I know I will regret it!

Underdog status as well, I would have done the +1 but nmex beat me to it. If I was rich though, to be completely honest I would get a G35 4-dr and turbo it or get a Z32TT, I LOVE Z's, but nothing beats the look on peoples faces when a beat up mid 90's infinitit smokes the hell out of something much more $$, but if I had more $$ I would go with a Z

hmm, maintenance on the two years i've had my car runs about 300 a year.. that's good for 180k. The gas mileage/performance ratio i think is very good ( I get a tad under 26 in mixed driving and at or over 30 highway). I also agree the design was very well thought out except for a few minor annoyances. And lastly she still looks good. The paint is starting to go but it still shines nice!

Who's to say that wasn't a cheap, aftermarket replacement bumper that we all know paint has a hard time sticking to, primered or not? The 4th gen paint jobs that I've seen go really bad are due to abuse. If you want to, you can make it last. Sure it's a little thin, but I've seen alot worse from other manufacturers of that same era.

Because people still tell me my car looks almost new!! Even thought I bought it 6 years ago.
The car has been living for 10 years now and even though my car has 200k it's still in good shape.

i dont have any concrete evidence, just speaking from what ive seen myself. my GF's uncle has a 98 with a stock spoiler. its rusted around the parts that connect it to the trunk
i can literally see into his trunk while its closed

I was seriously considering selling mine next year and buying a 540 then I went out to the salvage yard and stripped a complete 99 never smoked in interior and switched from the tan to black, switched out the headlights for the r34's and did a few minor maintenance items suddenly it's like a new car and I'll have it at least a few more years.
I <3 My VQ as well.

I know the car is good and the motor rocks, but come on comfortable? That driver seat sucks the big one. Next to no lumbar (even when it was newer). Side bolsters are not there either. anyway enough about the seats.
Maybe I'm just bored with it because all the cheap mods are done and now it's time to start saving for the bigger $ mods. 00vi, lip kit etc, etc. New car means car payments, but it also means a blank canvas.
Do you guys ever get bored with your car?
I would like to hear from some of the "older members" on this board also... panda, mtmzg, phenryiv1, blackcat to name a few...

No car payments.
And the cost of the occasional repair is less than the cost of the yearly payments for a new car.
new car payments (350-400/month) x 12 = ~ $4800 (on a ~20k loan for 60months) plus the extra money for full insurance.
current cost of repairs so far this year = ~ $1500
I am considering upgrading to something bigger for the family in a few months, but no rush.

cheap insurance, I already own it, still gets me from point a to point b in relative comfort. Great college car. I'll be getting rid of my max in half a year though.
Though, my paint is still in top shape. It still looks great even though it's 11 years old.

No payment, looks good, reliable, easy to fix, fairly easy to mod, good gas mileage when I drive it like a granny. And probably one of my favorite things about the car is that its pretty nice and roomy inside and only weighs about 3000 lbs. All newer cars are either smaller and/or weigh more.
And maxima.org makes me keep it also. I always see the latest innovations that people come up with here on the org it just makes me want the car more.

a couple weeks ago my friend recorded me imitating "Top Gear" with Tiff Niddell (sp?) I basically created a Top Gear episode for the "noinety noine" macksimuhh... (the video is on my phone but no sound.. would like to get it on the computer somehow lol)
(british voice)
whats not to love? the maxima has the FEEL of a sports car with the practicality of an everyday mummy and daddy saloon. (sedan) The sporty 5 speed gear box is what keeps you coming back for more! Stiffer suspension leaves you feeling like you can't contain yourself from taking turns like mario andrettiiiiiiiiiii (still british voice) The sleek design will catch anyone's eye. The reliability is there too! Its like getting the appetizer sampler at Applebee's. Everything is there, and its really great.
sometimes I wonder why everyone doesn't buy one. they look sick, are powerful, and reliable.
Keep in mind I was ROCKED out of my face when we made the video.. lol
