Removing a dash kit

I have had my aluminum dash kit on for almost three years and its really starting to fade. Has anyone taken their dash kits off and if so, what is the best method? I am not sure if I am going to put a new kit on or if im going to paint it. Let me know what you have done or what you think I should do.

if you want to keep it pop it out and paint it. More cost effective. If not switch to carbon fiber.

My problem is I have popped it in and out a few times for random things and a couple of the pieces are cracking as well. Not a fan of the carbon fiber look though.

After reading about some of these dash kits on ebay that are like the one i have, it seems that all they have is the 3m adhesive on them and you can almost peel them off if you start in one corner. That being said, I am sure its going to leave a bunch of sticky stuff all of the original dash. So, whats the best thing to remove adhesive from that kind of surface and what do you think of this as a potential new kit ?

I would pick up a dash from a junkyard or something, then paint that. Then again, I wouldn't have gotten a dash kit in the first place.

I didnt want to put a dash kit on either, but the previous owner did something to the interior and the original dash looked like it was stripped of its color, so something had to be done. Good idea though getting a dash from a junkyard.

Thanks

Let it sit in da sun then start to peel it summer so should be enough heat to soften then use some kind of adhesive remover

I've had my CF kit on for 6 years and I still like it Buying all the pieces from a junkyard may cost a bit. I say sand it and paint it.

I think you should buy my entire I30 oem woodgrain kit. Though the climate control trim wouldn't be the same for your '99

I am going to be taking the dash kit off on sunday. I will post an update on what the condition is underneath and will make a decision based off that. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Well, I took of the kit today and the actual removal wasnt that bad. I let the car bake in the sun for awhile and then the individual pieces peeled right off. The problem was a decent amount of the adhesive remained. I peeled it all off with my fingers but the dash is still sticky. What is my best bet to get the dash completely clean ?

Goo-off... maybe mineral spirits, but if you use that make sure you wipe it with water after.
