A new exhaust questoin...

Went into Mad Hatter Muffler today to get a leak in my exahust fixed, and came out with some bad news. The metal on the cat where the pipes connect is gone, which wasn't a big deal, but it's also gone on the small peice where the O2 sensor is right after the cat. There's nowhere for the gasket to stick and close, so I'm doomed to forever have a leak. What they offered is to put in a magnaflow cat with an O2 sensor hole in it, and that would replace the cat and that small bent part.

But, this would cost $300. I really don't have this kind of money, considering all the other work my car needs on it.

So, what are my options here? I could get a high flow cat, but I don't know where I could get the smaller pipe. Anyone got one? I'm really considering selling this thing and getting another car...the only prob is I wouldn't have any money to spend on mods.

HELP!!!

$300 seems awfully high. I would call around and see how much different shops would charge to purchase and install a high flow cat. When I called around, I got averages of about $150 including installation, but who knows what brand cat they were using.

At least now you know what the problem is.

It seemed really high to me too, he said the part itself is 270, and I've worked with him before and it's a VERY fair shop, so I don't think he's trying to pull one over on me. The high flow cats you were quoted were probably also just a regular high flow cat, the one I would have to get is larger and has the O2 sensor in it.

Yea...now if only it was a cheaper problem lol.

Sounds like you have a 97-99. If that's the case, you do not want a cat with an O2 sensor bung on it. Only the 95-96 exhaust was designed for that style.

Anyway, you can buy that small S-pipe from the dealer and then just buy an OE replacement cat.
