RE: Road and Track...

There are many different ways to be "faster". 1/4 mile, 0-60, slalom, etc. are all accepted ways that can differ in cars. 0-60 is probably most widely accepted, so I guess thats what you're asking for. According to Road and Track Magazine, the 0-60 time of a 1996 Maxima SE (automatic transmission) is 7.6 seconds, and a 2000 Maxima SE (automatic transmission) is 7.8 seconds. These are both competing models with alike options. However, due to the 5th generations increase in horsepower and torque, it will only begin to overaccelerate the 4th generation at higher speeds (40+ MpH). I raced an 2000 automatic SE with my 1996 automatic GXE just last Sunday. I started out much better than him, because he floored the gas and his wheels spun out. I had a 1 car lead on him and gained until about 2 cars and I stayed there until the end on the race. He could not catch up to me, partially because he had to slow down on turn that I didn't, and partially becase he floored his car like a freakin' rice boy. The truth it, the 4th generation and 5th generation are both faster in their seperate ways, but for street purposes the 4th generation. But keep in mind, that .2 seconds the 4th gen has over the 5th gen is ALL IN THE HANDS OF THE DRIVER. Drive happy. Just trying to help.

The acceleration numbers are virtually the same for the manuals also, about 6.6-6.7 seconds, 0-60.

ya it doesn't add any hp but i think it would only take off maybe .2-.3 seconds on the 0-60 because there is only one shift to 60 on an auto.

it doesnt add HP but it frees up HP. it changes gears faster and less power is lost in the torque converter..or tranny.. or something like that. hmm.. does what i said even make sense? maybe someone can clarify.. but some lost HP during gear changes are gained back with the VB mod.

it just ups the line pressure with stronger(tighter) springs and makes your shift faster.

dont take my word for it.. but i remember reading that when you are changing gears, during that long time, the torque converter is absorbing a lot of power. but with the VB mod, you will shift faster and the TC will absorb less power. that power will go to the wheels instead of the TC. does that sound right?

0-60 isnt a big deal

0-60 can be small difference....true difference comes from 1/4 mile...example...2001 BMW M3 is close to C5 corvette in 0-60 by like a tenth of a second but in the 1/4 mile the vette significantly beats it..by like a half second..and i think auto vs auto on 4th gen vs 5th gen...it all depends on the driver....brake torquing, manually shifting the auto, etc....

Most of the 5th genners have accepted that the 4th gens are just as fast as they are.

Beat, probably, scorch, no. Some autos are faster than average, and some manuals are slower than average. It's quite possible for her to win, even though a little unlikely.
