made a thread about a month ago. i swear, people in charleston cannot drive worth poop. saw 2 accident on the way to work this morning and saw 4 connsecutive accidents in a row once.
anyways, i nearly got swiped by a semi and had to slam on my brakes a few weeks ago. no ABS FTMFL!!! the weirdest thing happened to my car. it was as if i had disengaged overdrive. (THE O/D FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK ON MY CAR CURRENTLY). so i was basically going 60mpg at 3100 rpm the whole time. when i came to a halt, seemed like it was still in 3rd gear. turned the car off, went back to normal.
same thing happened this morning when the van in front of me was busy paying attention to an accident that occured on the other side of the highway. the person braked late, which gave me just enough time to brake, and swurve to the left. AGAIN, the same situition occured to me car.
why is it everytime when i slam on my brakes, this occur?

i guess what i really want to do is fix the O/D so if this does happen again, i can override that situation, haha get it...
O/D light is fine. O/D does light on when swiitched to acc.
Switch does not work. how can i fix this?

hate to say it, you might need a tranny if overdrive aint workin right. i've never heard of that before, if the overddrive keeps going on and off that usaully has always been the tranny on its way out for me. i would talk to a reliable tech, and or the dealer and see if there's a way to adjust or fix that. good luck man

got off the phone w/ a nissan techician, said that they don't know...
have to bring the car in, which i don't want to do cause they'll prob charge me abunch of BS inspection, diagnostic fee,etc sigh...
So does it go from on to off when breaking hard and the switch doesnt work at all for you? Id say a short, sounds easy to me. Check your wiring, could be a bad sensor or wire. Get a volt tester.
I'd get some used O/D wiring for the car. Talk to fanaticrockford PM him. He has tons of part cars and tell him i sent you. He can ship you some wiring for a price. All O/D does is lock out 4th. Could just be a short in the A/T shifter, at least an easier fix.

yeh that was one of my guesses. i spoke w/ fantaticrockford about it.
Yes the switch is probably the problem. Just take the shifter trim off. You will be able to see where the leads from the shift **** run into a harness with the wires for the illumination light and shift lock. If you take a piece of wire and touch the two pins together for the switch it will do the same thing as pressing the switch.
fsm says check the voltage between the A/T control unit terminal 39 and ground when overdrive control switch is on and off. Where is the A/T control unit located?
so if i'm not getting continuity at all between the two terminals for the O/D control switch, do I just have to replace that whole shift **** assembly or is the o/D harness like a plug in play?

O/D sensor? have no clue what ur talkin about. if the o/d function fails, like in my case, the car stays engaged in o/d. i can't disengage it. it has no affect to the way the car drives.
are u referring to the vehical speed sensor maybe? if that went out, cruise control will not get a speed signal and ur speedometer will likely to stop working

As far as the braking goes;
What if you just learned to drive the car as it is? Learn threshold braking. Look farther ahead when you drive. Leave more distance. Get the car in shape, save and attend a High Performance Driving Event. That will help far more than griping and trying to put ABS on a car that didn't have it to begin with...

lol...........
dude, ive had this car for 4 years. i know the limits of my car. and i'm saving to do sum suspension work.
i don't need driving tips. i know how to drive. plus i been into auto-cross, track racing for several years.
like i said, the van in front of me breaked too late and i was well over a car length behind going like 65mph. its not like i was riding right behind the car.
and there comes a time when your gonna have to whale on the breaks or else ur gonna crash. and i would rather have abs then not have it and know "how to drive". not having abs can lead to over skidding and loss of control even if u are an "awesome" driver..
ur post is stupid

so i'm guessin the a/t control unit should be in there as well.
omg i do not wanna remove the center dash again. i literally unistalled that thing about 30 times already. the plastic tabs started to break and had to super glue em back

thats normal in the manual it says it will shift into third for you to get somewhere safe if it expiriences hard braking and such or some other things as a impact i dont remember what page but look it up in th manual under over drive and it will have a little note saying that and saying the OD light will blink for 8 seconds like the drop resistor mod

4th Gen is not worth the time or hassle. It's a topic that has been discussed several times on this board.
So who's post is stupid??

lol, i really really wish. i've actually called like 4 different tranny shops and they all said they don't do swap except for one but they still seemed kinda iffy bout doin it.
right now, its just tooo much for the parts and labor to get it done.
i'm saving for coilover, tint, front end paint, and replace vc gaskets right now.
