Header Removal - EGR Valve Large Nut

The nut seems just about rusted into the header so I'm going to try get the large nut off of the valve that goes into the engine. What size is needed?

I expect it to be around 30mm. Search brought up one thread that said 31 mm and two that said 30mm.

Quick question.. just wanted to be sure.
Thanks.

The way I loosened mine was I put a bigger wrench around it and then hit it with a hammer. The force of the hammer for that split second is more than our arms so after 10 or so hits I got it to budge. Also, spray some WD-40 or something on it and let it soak in.

But let me tell you, this was probably one of the hardest parts of the install of my SS AutoChrome headers. I couldn't get it loosened for a while, then once I did and put the new headers on, I couldn't get everything lined up to fit the bolt back into the new headers. After about 5 hours I got it.

That's why I take things like that to a Muffler shop. It takes them five minutes and it costs you 10 bucks at most.

I think he means labor only, not for headers, and most mom-pop shops will charge 10-30 bucks for a simple install like that. but DIY FTW

I left the EGR pipe on the block and only undid the bolt.

ilyak, i just put on ssautochrome headers also, but i had tons of trouble getting the egr tube to fit. The tube seemed too long and didnt want to line up and i just ended up cutting it, and splicing in a flex section so that it would. What did you do in order to get it all to line up?

I just kept working at it and threading/re-threading the EGR bolt. Eventually it went in. I think I also lifted the headers a bit (pulled towards the top of the engine). I had to keep all the headers bolts loose to allow for the play...

It was a PITA. Period.

I spent like 5 days (4 hrs per day just about) re-doing my exhaust...with most of that time having to do with the back header. It was a PITA.

I have the SS Auto Headers and Y-Pipe, Warpspeed High-Flow Cat, Budget B-Pipe with resonator, and new OEM 4th gen muffler.

Glad I could help bro. Once you get it back in the new headers...most of the hard work is done.
