2" drop, now problems

Hey Guys,

Well like the title says, I installed Sprint Springs, 2" drop all around, and the installations went quite well, minus the fact that it sucks not having an impact wrench for my giant spring compressors.

Anyways, after everything was set up. I go for a quick drive, and notice. when ever I corner to the right, this metal vibrating, grinding, rubbing noise comes from the passenger front wheel. I took it off and everything seems fine, everything has sufficiant clearance.

Also the ride is a little harsher, with stiffer springs, but the steering wheel vibrated alot, I know this may be because of alignment issues. I am going tommorrow to get it alligned. If any of you guys have ever had this problem, or have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks

Check if you bent the brakedust cover. Also re-tighten everything especially the center bolt on the strut. I have a similiar sound and also only happens turning/cornering right. It's likely that my axle is on its way out because of the drop. Might be that.

What spring and strut set-up did you go with?
What size wheels and tires are you running?

Stock wheelse. the honeycomb 15" GLE wheels. I have Tokico Illuminas all around, and I just put on Sprint Springs with a 2" drop all around.

did you make sure the springs were seated correctly and did you use isolators?

Are the top parts of the coil wrapped like this? The top coils when compressed will rub against each other. See the slight rust stain on the black Eibach coil? That came from the upper coil.

I got the wrap from the electrical aisle of Home Depot.

I agree with Bonka. My first thought would be brake dustshield. Put the car on jack stands, spin up the wheels and see if you can duplicate the noise.

hmmm yea. It sounds like it could be the dust shield. Im going to check it out. But the noise only occurs when Im am cornering harder. ie. over 30. I am using the isolaters. but never thought of what black cat suggested there. Probably a good idea. When I get off work I willl take another look and update

think you gotta wait till u get it aligned. With no other issues I have stech's with a 17x8 wheel and 225 50 tires and i dont rub at all. Tune your struts down to a lower setting and run a tire thats a tad thicker to clean up that stiff ride.
then again I Just finished installing new inner and outer tie rods, rack boots, bushings, balljoints, a cv axle, sway links with all factory nissan parts after I let a .org member work on it ...let just say he hacked it up pretty darn good

I find it hard to believe its the dust shield. Not that its definitely not, but if it only happens when you turn right? The rotor shouldn't move in relation to the shield when turning. If it does, you have bigger issues...

Could be a wheel bearing we see that alot at my work. We lower a car and the added stress on the old bearing makes it start to vibrate or make noise. It also could be a bad tie rod end or ball joint, for the same reason. Jack the car up and shake the wheel side to side, if there is play its ether a ball joint or tie rod end. Then shake it up and down if there is play there then its a bearing.

Just a suggestion.

yea, well most of the problems got fixed, it was the dust sheild. the springs are SLOWLY settling and "weakening" a little. but everytime I hit a bump-. the springs are stiff and my car doesnt feel like it wants to take the pot holes anymore.

anyways, its all worked out. *for any noobs like me, * when re-installing the strut housings. make sure the top piece of metal is the right way. it says in and out on it. this was one mistake I made and almost destroyed my suspension. the spring almost popped right out of the housing

sprint springs

i have been riding on sprint springs for years on kyb agx front and koni in rear. no noise problems at all. yeah the ride is stiffer but its a sacrifice you have to take dropping your car. rides hard over bumps to, especially with "19 rims. at least you figuered out your problem.definitely get it aligned right away or you will destroy your tires quickly.

I also have sprint springs on my max, but i'm ready to get rid of them. I have kyb's up front but they aren't the agx's and I can't go on hardly any roads unless they are smooth, because when the fronts bottom out, they bottom out real hard and harsh. It's starting to annoy me. Will it ride better up front with the agx's? If so, i'm willing to try them before getting rid of the springs. Thanks in advance!

Don't waste your money on new struts. If you want a big drop on an A32 go with coilovers. All the 2"+ drops put you almost on the bump stops. I'm on S-techs and AGXs and wish I had stepped up for coilovers.

Thanks! It looks like I'll invest in some coilovers.
