Serpentine belt
So i replaced my alternator and i started the car and gave it a little gas and the belt started squeaking so i tightened it to almost as tight as it would go... for some reason i did that but it stoped the squeaking but then i turned on the A/C and it started to squeak when i turned on the A/C. Then this morning i started the car and i just smelt rubber. Not squeaking and the accelerator felt a little stiff. Do i just need to take it to a mechanic and let him look at it? or is tthere another way to do it?
over tightening a belt causes it to sit too low in the grooves on the cranks. as it runs and runs, those rubber grooves start to create friction and heat up and expand and the problem just gets more exaggerated. it had this problem with an AC belt a couple of months ago. better a belt be too loose than too tight.
on an unrelated topic - how do you get that picture in your signature?
do you have to post it as a URL? how do i get a JPG to post as a URL?
can you just copy paste it?
