Rwd Coversion

IS it possible? Has it been done?
I was playing with the idea w/a friend. Take a 300zx 93/94 TT engine, tranny, differential, and mod it on a maxima.
I would like to know if any of u think its possible and how hard/expensive it would be. Just curios

You could probably convert to RWD(write check for about $15,000 or more) but the TT engine is just too wide to fit into the maxima engine bay.
Still want to do it?

Jeff,
HOW DARE YOU SAY IT SHOULDN'T BE DONE!
WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU MAN?
IT'S THEIR 15Gs, NOT YOURS.
Sure, trading for a mid-90s 300z makes loads more $$$ sense, but that doesn't matter.
STOP FORCING YOUR OPINION ON EVERYONE!

Just about anyone in the country has access to JDM engines. You just have to know who to call. But just becuase they say "less than 30k" doesn't mean they are in good condition. Japanese typically change cars every 30k or so. So they don't give a rat's azz about changing the oil or burning the turbos up. Just assume your 30k motor has NEVER has it's oil changed. I used to get Japanese engines years ago but they were from low mileage wrecks. I owned a 12a JDM turbo and had access to FJ20 and FJ20-T. I could have got any engine I wanted. Even RB26DETT if I could have affored it.

i work at a nissan dealer and i noticed that a j30 that was bought from us that was getting an oil change was rwd , how close are the platforms? considering that the max has a beam multilink rear end i dont think the rear end would need much work , the fuel tank would need to be modified if not completely changed , all the floor paneling would need modification to fit a decent drive shaft and the firewall would need to be cut/massaged inorder to fit the tranny , otherwize i dont see why rwd is such a big deal providing you can do most of this work yourself , have a second car to drive , all the tools and knowhow needed and have enough time to work full time to pay for it and work on it too

Considering the rear drive shafts, differential and true independant rear trailing arm suspension would have to reside in the exact same space as the rear beam suspension, I think it's one hell of a problem.

mmm are you serious? its gonna be ALOT of work. not counting alot of money spent and im willing to bet youll have driveability probs. My estimate would be 15k+. The number can/will jump as everything goes in the car and figure more parts need to be added, something doesnt fit, something needs to be modified. Then things can break, rattle, not work, and thats more down time plus more money to figure and fix the prob. I doubt any shop will waranty this conversion.

rear windows all the way down would be nice, as for rwd i was implying something more along the lings of a conventional panhard bar, as for the Z's rear end most of it is mounted to a subframe, that subframe could be modified to fit a max it looks like theres parts in all the right places for it , when u guys get a max and a Z up on the lift right next to eachother you tell me how u dont see things falling right into place

Ah, well it would require the person to completely throw away the maxima beam and weld in a COMPLETELY NEW subframe to support the driveline, diff, axles, suspension etc.... YOu can't use the maxima beam, the differential would have to run into it. Not to mention probably cutting a large, long section to accmodate the drive shaft though the middle of the car.
Are you a mechanic, sales or parts in the Nissan dealer?
