no, there's no way to prevent it. just put up with it.
dude, lol... this noise is very normal.... I had it on my max (note: had because my max is no more
) I work doing vallet parking and after I shut down cars, most Japanese cars do that... Some POSs or serious luxury cars don't....

Very simple answer if you were paying attention in physics class. When metal's get hot, the mettalic structure is slightly altered and it"increases" its size ie expands.
When cooling the metal "regains" its previous mettalic structure and it is during this cooling phase that you hear the tick tick tick noise. FYI all car's do this unless they are made of clay lol.

hottie
The maxima along with other cars with relatively low displacement tend to run hotter than typical american type cars (chevy 350, ford five liter, etc.). This makes the previously mentioned expansion and contraction more pronounced. If all the joints were flexible this would help reduce the noise. It would also mean more money for R&D, parts & labor.

That ticking let's me know she is ready for more.
Yeah, when aluminum cools it contracts. During the contraction process, the metal is doing one of many things. Most noticable is ticking. I do notice when I don't go out and take it over 50 or so, it doesn't tick. But like tonight I just got in, it was myself and I-85, she was tickin away.
Don't worry about.

There is one way...
The way that I got rid of the ticking in my car is that I bought a Cattman Y-pipe and then had it wrapped with exhaust wrap to quite it down and it also muffled the ticking. You can't hear it unless you are actually under the car.
