I want a nice big, good sounding, good hp giving muffler. There is a shop in town that sells AC Revolution mufflers. They run about 185 with tax. Are they any good? What kind of other mufflers would be good??

I don't think any mufflers give "good" if any HP.

Amen to that. I wouldn't recommend ricing up your Maxima for the sake of maybe 2 HP.

But hey, do what you like.

It's all in the pipe size, and the bends. IF you go bigger diameter, and minimize the bends- mandrel of course, then you're on the right track to allowing more power. As for the mufflers go, bigger chambers are what you want. I picked my Flowtech Terminator because they got 3" chambers inside, and that's what counts. I actually heard it for the first time yesterday from outside the car. At WOT, it sounds very wicked!

IT can be cool

I know what u are talking about when u see a metro or some POS car..., but on a maxima/3000gt/mustangs/corvetts/supras/preludes/ the list can go on and on the sound of a nice deep throated muffler can be the icing on the cake!!

I say find a muffler that ifts your likings! And if anything, the muffler will fill on that gap between the body and the stock muffle tip =D

peace

The Revolution Muffler that I am talking about I beleive has a 3" chamber and a 2 1/2" outlet with a silencer that can be taken out. It looks real nice and would not really be that loud.

when you say outlet, are you referring to the tip? anyways, if the tip is only 2 1/2" - it would look fine. not ricey at all. And i think only four cylinders make the weak annoying tone while our v6 would definitely sound deeper and aggresive.

I've heard some V6 accords and 300zx's with those ricey mufflers and they sound like crap. Just a bigger fartcan. Im getting a 2.5" flowmaster 3 chamber installed in a few days...we'll see how that sounds :P

Bigger is not better! By the law of physics the smaller the tube the faster the air will come out. Get intake then y pipe and then a cat-back exhaust not just a mufler cause it dont do sh*t.

Exhaust gases will escape out faster with a smaller diameter pipe, and back pressure will be greater than having a large pipe. But, the trade-off is that it won't eliminate restrictions which is why you get a bigger pipe. Oh yeah, a while ago, I saw a Pikachu-colored Geo POS (with actual Pikachu dolls on the inside too!) with this HUGE tip which upon a closer look was a metal PAIL from Home Depot! Wish I had a camera to take a pic and post it on rice boy hall of shame or something! Dunno what kinda statement it was but it was flamin'!

The mufler itself, no matter how big or small will add little or no power. Unless changing the b-pipe and or y pipe with it. It will give a much deeper sound though. A cheap way is a Naxos mufler. Retails around $150 and looks like a knock off Stillen or Greddy Exhaust.

does anyone know where they sell these Naxos mufflers? The reason I don't want to get a whole exhaust system is because my parents will not let me put anymore money into my car. They say they will buy me a new car next year for graduation. I told them if they would let me repaint my Max then I would keep it. But they wont.

Now this guy knows what he is talking about. To get a good effect you need the whole 9 yards.

If you want something that sounds stong and deep, get a flowmaster muffler. I currently have a Flowmaster 50 series 3 chamber muffler with 3" inlet/outlet and it sounds great. It doesn't make that loud buzz those big ricey mufflers make. It's not too loud either. It costed me around 75 bucks and 30 for the tip. Got a shop to install it for 65 so that's a total of around 170. The hp gains are minimal but I love it.
