No one in Memphis,TN will install my y-pipe or rt cat. No one is willing to remove the precats with out having a divice that will make op the difference. How am I suppose to get anything done when I dont have the ability to do it myself.

I don't think I have the right tools and what if I get stuck in the middle of the project? I tried to install my greddy catback myself and could not get all the bolts off.

did you put it up on ramps or jack stands. Would either work? I also do not have the gaskets for the RT cat. Can i use the oem gaskets or should I go to nissan and buy new ones?

I used jackstands... Get new gaskets, you can get them from a Nissan dealership for little $$...

try taking a road trip to neighboring state

Why not just go to another city to get it done. I've tried to do a few exhaust mods on my old car and what I always ended up finding out was, if you don't have the right tools it's a pain in the a$$. Even if your car is on jack stands....it should really be on a lift when you're doing this stuff. Do you really want to be on your back trying to bust free bolts without an impact air gun? Also if you need to give the piping a push one way or the other to get the pipes to line up it's going to be hard. Don't get me wrong..i'm all for do it yourself....but only when you got the right stuff. Good Luck....Be careful

I agree it's a relatively simple procedure that can get difficult fast if problems arise. Most of the potential problems will come from removing any rusted out bolts. How's this for a suggestion: have those shops that won't install your y-pipe just loosen/remove/replace the bolts for you instead? Then you can go home and do the install yourself.

I ran into this problem myself. One of the cat bolts was rusted solid! I was even using an impact air gun. I spent hours trying to remove/cut that bolt off. I ended up having to take it to a muffler shop and they torched it off! But when I came back home, the rest of the install went relatively smooth.

heres my advice (just an opinion). first of all, dont take adivce from anyone that hasnt done it themselves. they really do not know the proceduces that are involved to begin with so i dont know why they are even trying to talk you out of doing it yourself. its really not that hard. i have a 95 gle. EVERYTHING was rusted on it, and i still got it off with a little effort. the exhaust manifold bolts (there are 6) will be tight, but they do come off. four of them are very easy to get to, the other two you will need a universal for. actually on the two hard ones on mine, the nut itslef didnt break free, rather the enitire stud did but i just screwed them back on in the same holes.. works just as well. and you already have a cat-back so the cat bolts were probably recently broken free. you can drop both the y pipe and cat as one peice. dont even worry about seperating the cat from the original y-pipe under the car.just seperate it from the b-pipe. i ordered a new bracket for the exhaust hangers before i did mine to make life easier, i suggest you do the same. it wasnt expensive, about 35 i think but dont hold me to it. this way everthing is new, and u wont have to fight to try and get it off. the total project for you would be to take off : the 6 maniflod nuts, 2 bolts supporting the y pipe (extremely easy), the two cat bolts connecting to the b-pipe, and 3 o2 sensors.. whats so hard here ??? the best thing to do is get your car as high off the ground as u can to give you as much room possible to work in. i backed my car onto ramps, and put the front up on stands.. had plenty.. if nobody wants to do it for you you might as well try.

If you're curious of the details involved in the installation, here's where I have my

I agree with KCTYPHOON if you recently had a cat-back put on you should not have a problem. The only bolts that may give you a problem are the bolts that connect the y-pipe and cat but if you take them off as one piece you can work on them off the car.

When you do work yourself there is always something that you don't anticipate but if you are persistant you'll get it done.
