I have Bosch Platinum +4. They are suppose to be a pretty good performance plug. They make them that fit the Maxs but they are about $6 each at Autozone.

The decent ones that i know of are the Denson Iridum, NGK, and the Bosh +4... I hear the Bosh +4 is made for german and european type cars... Also hear that the Maxima engine is very sensitive to the sparks... Alot of people tell me to stick with stock plugs... It's been like 6 months and I am still deciding which ones to go with... It's a matter of your personal preference...

NGKs are actually considered performance plugs in most circles...

The NGKs are definitely recommended, hell even having the wrong heat range version of them can degrade performance. I would get the NGKs no matter what. BTW, they are about 10 bucks each.

Dealership (Nissan): 11 bucks. Make sure they give you the 5 heat range, ask anyone at Maxus what running the wrong heat range will do to performance(well my running at least).

What does running the wrong heat range do to your peformance?

Empirically. I did a very simple test. I could do two things. Go 0-60 in ~7.6 seconds consistantly on a particular stretch of unused road and I could spin my tires off the line. After breaking in the plugs (500 miles), I could only run 7.8 second 0-60s and could no longer spin the tires, only chirp them. I changed to new proper heat range plugs, and guess what? 0-60 in 7.6 seconds and I can spin the tires again. Seemed pretty clear cut to me. BTW, the colder plugs WERE properly installed and showed no signs of detonation on them after removal.

Check out the sticky about maintenence items:
There are place listed that sell the plugs cheaper than normal autostores.

I changed to plugs one temperature range colder. (I believe they are the standard plug used in the 300ZX.) My butt-dyno reports that my torque curve is somewhat flatter/less peaky than before. Anyone have some supporting empirical data? I changed to the colder plug in preparation for my NOS system install, coming soon. Am I on the right track, or have I shot myself in the foot? Please kindly advise. Thanks.

Just got with stock, as long as you stay in the proper heat range, you won't notice any difference between any of the plugs. I have the Denso Iridium plugs, $14 per plug and you can't even tell they're there.

Bullseye, check 2 posts above you, hell I even used the word empirically. My dyno runs with them in were 15 HP less than they should have been. _DRU_ coppers ARE NOT recommended by Nissan.

The VQ will burn through copper plugs in a heartbeat, platinum or iridium alloy ONLY.

Medicsonic, I read and reread your posts, and I don't see a reference to torque. In the space of two posts, you mention both your 0-60 times and a 15-HP comparo, but not anything about torque, empirical or otherwise. Hell, I even used the word "torque" in my question. :-)

Referring once again to my butt dyno, I believe the colder plugs have indeed slowed my 0-60 times, perhaps resulting from a loss of HP. However, torque delivery seems to occur over a larger RPM range. That was the crux of my question.

I will soon have my nitrous system installed. I heard cold plugs are recommended for a nitrous installation, so I put colder plugs in on my last maintenance cycle. In view of information provided in this thread, now I'm having second thoughts. Can any of the nitrous users comfort me with a definitive answer? Thanks to all.

Sorry about that, I was also down ~14 Lb-ft. from peak, but the torque curve was still very flat. Synki runs platinum plugs without any problem, so you may want to talk to him.
