Hey, the bulbs for the clearance lights are 1157, right? I was wondering if they're double filament or single.

Yea, dual-filament. You could always use a 1156 and file down or one of the tabs off to get the higher wattage.

so instead of rewiing my coeners to use the brighter filament of the 1157 couldnt i just put 1156 in there and not re-wire anything, and get the same effect or would i damage something doing that

Yup, don't bother rewiring, just replace it with a 1156 bulb. Its very simple. File or cut off one of the tabs and it should be able to hook into the 1157 socket. If its loose, just wrap a little electrical tape around the base to make it snug.
